FenderGuy1 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Rocking it today with SRV with my strat in my hand
drew365 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Well, I replied to the other thread before seeing this one. For LP forum members that don't know, it's best not to feed the fish, just ignore and move on. Trust me on this. This will be my only reply and it's done only as a public service.
Morkolo Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Rocking it today with SRV with my strat in my hand If you're trying to be offensive I'm not sure if playing a Strat with SRV is the best place to start.
Gary Moore Tribute Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 This is a Gibson forum, I would surgest that any Fender banter be left on the Fender Forum If you ACTUALLY owned both then this post may have had some worth...
damian Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Rocking it today with SRV with my strat in my hand Pics or it didn't happen..............
Morkolo Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Pics or it didn't happen.............. Halloween's been over for a few days so whoever was wearing the zombie SRV costume with him might not be up for pics now. [biggrin]
Riffster Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 This guy is a troll? he seems so innocent. To the OP, probably half the forum members here have Strats. End of thread, unless you have pics.
4Hayden Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Rocking it today with SRV with my strat in my hand Most all of us here have a strat, but we weren't born yesterday. Post the picture
djroge1 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Yes most have a strat and I have an SRV strat.
djroge1 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Strats suck GTFO Strats can't suck... they have no mouth. You might suck though
Silenced Fred Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Strats can't suck... they have no mouth. You might suck though You're right. And Strats can't have bad tone either, because they are completely void of tone as well
djroge1 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 You're right. And Strats can't have bad tone either, because they are completely void of tone as well Tone is in the hands of the player. Perhaps it's not the strat that lacks tone when you play.
Silenced Fred Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Tone is in the hands of the player. Perhaps it's not the strat that lacks tone when you play. I don't play Strats. I have heard plenty of people who do, and its lame. Man up and get a tele if you're gonna play a Fender with smaller single coils
stein Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Have you ever played a (good) Strat through a good amp? I don't mean something with a humbucker, I mean a Strat made to sound like a Strat. And, not one of those ones with Tex-Mex or cheaper pups-nor Texas specials or some overwound stuff. I mean a regular, pure Strat.
damian Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Most all of us here have a strat,bu we weren't born yesterday. Post the picture Yup !!!!! Post a pic, even if you screw the pic up and post it sideways !!!!!!! .......

I mean a regular, pure Strat. I've played a Fender Custom Shop Strat. I've played a ton of strats because some guitar players I listen to happen to have played them, and I thought it would be awesome if I played one too. Aside from Hendrix and some of the other great people, Strats are the most boring, bland, shitty tone I have ever heard Still hate em and think they are devoid of any tone. Overwound pickups in any guitar are crap.

If you just play a chord and expect some magic it won't happen, so I will give you that. But, if you want to make something SCREAM or cry, and then get a grind or a chunk, and then get smooth and big, a Strat will respond like no other.

Correct, Stein...........It takes TALENT to make a Strat sing and scream..........Seems to me that this is the problem with those who say that " Strats s*ck."
djroge1 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Correct, Stein...........It takes TALENT to make a Strat sing and scream..........Seems to me that this is the problem with those who say that " Strats s*ck." Exactly why I originally wrote, "Tone is in the hands of the player. Perhaps it's not the strat that lacks tone when you play."
This_Dying_Soul Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Most people here won't take the bait on a flame war. Lots of us own fenders as well at least one Gibson. I've technically got 2 and 2 - Les Paul, SG, American Dlx Strat, and Gretsch (Gretsch supposedly is not owned by FMI but has made some sort of licensing deal with them to build and distribute their guitars - convenient since Fender now owns DeArmond) Lately I've been a slave to the stat, but that's just the honeymoon phase. I got the strat about a month and a half ago. I'm about due to break out the Les Paul for a bit. I find I'm funny in the sense that I don't always make my guitar choices based on what the original artist used to play the song. For example, I'll use my Sg to play Hendrix... my Gretsch to play Santana's version of Black Magic Woman, a strat to play Sabbath, a Les Paul for SRV. I basically select the guitar based on the tone I am after... sometimes I love the song but want to hear it a bit differently. ...that can be anything from the tone (often the guitar I choose makes all the difference) or even sometimes the notes I choose (playing harmonic minor and Diminished scale based licks in Black Magic Woman for example).
damian Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Exactly why I originally wrote, "Tone is in the hands of the player. Perhaps it's not the strat that lacks tone when you play." I don't play live these days ( at least not under names folks know me to ), but I record a lot.....There's nothing like layering Les Pauls upon Strats, and Strats upon Les Pauls, and/or Strats on Strats and Les Pauls upon Les Pauls.....Heck, I'll record 6 different guitars in the same song...... ...... ...............................
Morkolo Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Maybe it's a disease but I can pick up any guitar and fall in love with it. I don't really get the gear hate that goes on, I just enjoy each guitar for what it is. To many people in my eyes want a bunch of different guitars packed into one and for that reason I'm not sure if they will ever be happy with their gear.
Kimbabig Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I'm confused guys, there seems to be no general consensus on whether strats suck or not? How am I supposed to form an opinion with out being told what my opinion should be?
