My dad just recently purchased a 1959 Commemorative Les Paul. It looks to be real to me, but of course I'm no real authority on that. I can't find a way to check the serial number because there were only 30 of these things made. It says 4/30 on it, but I'm guessing that could have easily been replicated if they wanted to do so. What should I be looking for and how can I know for sure?

Hello,

You best bet would be to contact Gibson's customer service. They will be able to provide you with all the information you require.

Here is a link to email them:

or call 1-800-444-2766 24/7 (US number)

You could also post pictures + serial number on the forum and I am sure some of the experienced members here will reply with their thoughts. Make sure the photos contain no angles and have clear views of the back of the headstock and front of the body.

Opps meant to add front of the headstock too

Thanks for the reply. I sent them an email and I finally got a reply early this morning. They told me to send the pictures, but also said that it was limited to 2MB total size. I can't find a camera that can take one picture less that 2MB. So I'll post the pics here, maybe someone can help me out.

Good evening and congrats on your new LP. I ran across your thread and 5 minutes later found your guitar on Music Zoo website. Check out pics/price. Fantastic top. We are all a little envious. ENJOY!!!!

If you still want to email photos to customer service, you might want to try using paint and saving in jpg format. So with the photo open press -> alt + print screen -> open paint -> control v then in paint click on the selection tool and select smaller areas of the giutar and then copying and pasting the selected area back into paint and saving into jpeg or mpeg formats. I think that might reduce the size of the photo. You might also want ensure that your camera is set at 3 mega pixels if possible when taking the photos to help just that little bit more.
