Texasbluezman Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Was at GC last night. I was buying an amp from an individual, and we met @ GC of North Houston. After buying the amp, I did some looking around. I picked up a Trad Plus first, and thought, this thing is light as a feather. I plugged it in, and it was awesome! Then I picked up a Trad Pro, and WOW, this thing weighs a ton, but tone for days. It had a little something that the Plus didn't. I really don't know what to say, except I need to work alot of overtime and start saving like crazy! Hopefully I can become a Gibson family member by the end of next year. It's really nice to have something forward to in life, but sucks to have GAS like this!
strat-o-steve Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I know the pain of waiting! It took me until I was 30 yrs old to finally be in a position to afford a Gibson Les Paul Standard :)
Texasbluezman Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Which neck profile does the Trad Pro have, 50's or 60's? Getting conflict info from different internet retailers. Have both been used? And how come I can't find one in Honeyburst. I know they make 'em, cause I was playing one the other night when I bought the BDRI.
big red Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Trad. pro's are awesome! I pulled the trigger and got one in red wine. One of the most versitile LP's Gibson makes (IMO). You can't go wrong with one off these. I'm still unlocking all of It's potential (even after having it for 8 months). It was either a studio deluxe or a trad. pro 60's I had in mind when I was looking for a new guitar. Bought the Trad. pro and never looked back! Any guitar player would easily fall in love when they play one (IMO).
Texasbluezman Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 That's why I had to put it down and get the hell the out of there. I like my marriage just the way it is. If had been there 5 more minutes, it wouldn't have been hard for a salesman to have made a sale, by credit or somehow.
anaconda Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I just bought one a week ago guitar center had cupons for 200.00 off any thing over a thousand dollars. got the 60's neck sunburst model. the only bad thing is its setting in the closet. wife says no playing to xmas. but i did play it at gc for a hour before i bought it. very nice guitar. hurry up santa. lol

anaconda Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I'm guessing you've also made the "blue-balls" argument to her as well. No but it might work loooool. She really knows i wanted a les paul for years i had a les paul standard when i was 16 . I saved up since i was 12 to buy one and a neibor had one a sunburst model dont know what year it was. well he sold me the les paul and a fender tube amp a old siver face vibro champ for 900 back then. im 46 now Well went on vaction with the family and when we got home it was gone. they didnt take the amp just the guitar and a piggy bank and for the love of god some 8 track tapes. only 3 people knew i had one dont know if one of them took it. i really dont think so. but they might have heard about it word of mounth. so i guess i could wait till xmax. kind of makes me feel like a kid waiting for santa to come. i apprecate the great humor from you guys though

I'll just have to make due with my Epi version which is also very nice, I love it but want the Gibby still!
Texasbluezman Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 So how does the satin back and neck feel? Sorry it took so long to answer. I kinda forgot about this thread, since I took care of the Les Paul GAS for a while with an Epi LP Custom Silverburst. I just got GAS again for a Trad Pro and started looking around the forum and found my own thread about them. I did find 1 on ebay, but I would rather play before buying. The satin feel very natural, not too slick, but not sticky at all. That's why my GAS keeps coming back to the Trad Pro. I know now, why I couldn't find anything about the 50's Honeyburst Trad Pro. It's a Guitar Center exclusive. So I hope I can still find one when I'm ready to buy. Does anyone know if Gibson is still making these new for GC? Or is this a limited edition and production has seized?
gdecantoo Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Look under gcplatinum.com, They still have a few. Picked one up last year. Amazing guitar!
Shortscaler Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 So, the trad pro comes with uncovered 'zebra' split coil hummers with no covers or anything that looks like a cover. You can probably see where I'm going with this. I've read how uncovered humbuckers are more open, crisper, etc. I've read some have put covers on and like it but god forbid you put chrome or anything the conducts magnetism. So, why hasn't anyone come out with plastic pup covers. How cool would it be to have black pup rings with tortoise shell pup covers? If you can do plastic, why not with artwork? I can't possibly be the first to bring this up, am I?
drew365 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Funny to see this thread again. I wanted a Trad Pro '50 real bad a year ago but ended up buying a '07 Standard Faded from Larry Corsa, which I love. But I've never forgot the Pro. I've noticed that not all of the GC's in my area have them anymore and I started to panic. They have a sale this weekend and I'm planning on getting the last one at my local GC. I'll let you know how it goes. If nothing else, I may put it on lay away, which is like self imposed torture.
MNash87 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I have a Trad Pro in Cherry Sunburst. I put in an RS Modern wiring kit, Suhr Aldrich pickups in zebra, and just put on Nickel-Silver covers (the zebra cream coils did not match the Gibson pinkish plastic parts). It looks awesome. Nickel silver is not conductive. Covers act as Faraday cage, repelling stray RF interference. Mine sounds great! No real tonal difference that I can discern. Th Aldrich's have a lot of clarity anyway so the covers don't make any difference that I can tell.
Texasbluezman Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Well, here's this thread again. After 10 weeks of nights working 7-12s, looks like I'm definitely in the market for Trad Pro now. Got the ok from the financial advisor (wife!) Looking to get one of the GC honeyburst 50's neck. Of course, there are none in the Houston stores now. I have to pay full price, then wait to ship, then see if it's ok. I'll have to think about that. In the meantime, I'm watching one on ebay. If I can get it $300-$400 cheaper than new, then I might go for the ebay one. If not, then I'll have to order one from GC's site. What is cool, is that, GC platinum actually has the weight of each of the Trad Pro 50's. Was thinking about a 10lb+. There are 5 that meet those requirements, several 9 pounders, and a couple of 8 pounders. When I get one, there will be pics.
