blazer
Just purchased my SG-3 slightly used with the plastic still on it, it has 3 gold 57's humbuckers and saw a very weird thing the serial # on the back of the headstock has the letter E followed by a long space then 3 numbers and is minus the made in usa stamp.I see on the gibson web sited that signature models are done this way and saw another new SG-3 with the normal serial #and USA stamp.Does anyone know why it has this type of serial # Thanks Blazer:-k
SolidGuitar
That is unusual. Maybe its a prototype or something.

boavida
I know this topic is as dead as the Nets (sorry Nets fans), but my sg-3 has that kind of serial as C xxx... C stands for Cherry as E for Ebony, and also don't have the made in USA on it. Also I believe that the number means that the one with C 001 is the first that have been made and that these were made in 2008, am I wrong? flyingarmadillo
Is that how the guitar of the week editions were serial #d? I have one of the '61 RI GOWs and it has a "standard" 9 digit serial number
dickey
Never understood why people care about serial #'s,case candy, certificates of authenticity, and all that other junk. As long as the guitar plays & sounds good, who cares? Not me. My '61 RI didn't come wit nuttin except a truss rod wrench, & that's all I needed. And I wouldn't care if the serial # was 1 or 1 million--as long as it wails like a woman with her hair on fire!

tom brown
In 2007 gibson made 400 black and 400 red gibson SG 3 guitars. If you look at my thread it has a wealth of information about these guitars . I believe all of the Guitar of the week went through Guitar Center. If you look there is a old video on you tube with the guy playing the Gibson SG 3 . It is The only Gibson that has the six way chicken head selector switch other then to Gibson SG three faded . i think lol
tom brown
I did so my SG 3 and now I got the itch for another SG and I’m thinking of an SG standard T type with the slim taper neck in the 57 pick ups . Trying to find a good deal on one is difficult and they have gotten expensive . But then again only if Gibson is good enough ! Lol
