Give it up.

You'll never make money in the guitar biz.

I've sold a dozen - in perfect condition - and made money on one.

:-)

And to think I always thought the way to make money in the guitar biz was by playing them. #-o

*Stands up*

Hi. My name is Ryan and it's been 3 weeks since my last guitar. And I still want a 62 Strat RI, a 2009 R9, and a Marshall stack. I have GOT to stop walking into music stores...

...and browsing these forums. Guitar porn doesn't help one bit!

*Sits down*

*Starts crying in jealousy of the guitar collections of Tim, Neo, GuitarJunkie, and daveinspain. and Thunder. and flight959's Slash.*

*Stands up again*

Screw it, I'm just going to shoot myself. Do you think they have Gibbys in heaven?

*Pulls out gun*

*Arrested*

*Hospitalized*

*Sentenced to one year house arrest and regular counselling sessions*

*Walks into GC and begins entire process over again...*

Man, you guys are one sorry lot. I can understand a person feeling they have purchased a few too many just like the night we drank a few too many and woke up on someone's water bed -- only to learn that the water bed could talk!

But, anonymous programs are for people with an addiction. We are investors - venture capitalists with a view to the future - waiting to cash in on all our sensible purchases.

You can laugh now, but in thirty years when you are strolling down the beach in Florida with your metal detector - you'll know who the man is then, right?

Oh, I think I found a dime in the sand . . . gotta go.

So is that because your investment paid off and you are have nothing better to do than stroll the beaches with you rmetal detector.... or, is it because the investment didn't pay off and you are looking for money for your next meal???

BTW... I was trying to figure out how you based the order of the guitars in your signature. Its not alphabetical, its not by year, so must be in order of value or importance to you...

Anyway, very impressive collection, you could just sell a couple of those and settle in Florida right now... Congratulations!!!

I was joking about guitar collecting being a good idea and trying to point out that GAS might leave us all searching the beach for cash because there won't be any in the bank if we keep it up!!! I don't think my tone translated very well to text.

The lack of order in my list is Gibsons first, Martins second then the order of the cases in their rack when I made the list. They all get played - I have regular jams at my place that are very popular, charging admission of one pack of strings (for obvious reasons) but I have never turned a player away who came without a 'ticket.'

My collection allows people in different economic zones an opportunity to play some rather special instruments against each other - eventually determining what they might actually want from hearing it instead of seeing it online. I also rent out for recording, movies and calendar photo shoots and this along with teaching guitar lessons and a full time day job ($30,000 annually) helps me keep it going.

In five years I am selling all of them except the five I play daily - Martin OM21, HD-28V, Gibson AJ, Fender Squier Thinline telecaster -- and the Art and Lutherie cedar AMI is my guitar at work that I play every day at lunch. My collection is the result of 27 years of buying, selling and trading. My financial investment in cash is roughly $10,000 and then thousands of hours of research and work.

The real GAS I have spent has been in fuel. I once drove 2200 miles to get a guitar. . . then 2200 miles back home, stopping to play it several times.
