johnnybregar Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Hi everyone, I'm curious if anyone owns or has played a Wildwood New Vintage J-45. Do you think the tone would be much different between that and a True Vintage? I'm looking at the ones with the Adi top. I'm loving how some of the new J-45's sound, but there's really none near me that I can play. Wildwood seems to have a good reputation so I thought I'd see if I pull off an online purchase. But I thought I'd check in with the forum to see if there are any opinions.... Johnny
jdd707 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 You've probably done this, but the Wildwood site has the ability to allow you to compare the True Vintage with the New Vintage. From the specs, there seems to be very little difference between the two, save the finish and the bracing. The True may be superior in those matters and it is cheaper. 3K is standard for the advertised price for a J45 True Vintage. Regardless of which you chose and from whom, be sure to call them and bargain for the lowest price. You are sure to save 2 or 3 hundred dollars. If I were taking a chance on an internet buy, I'd go with the True Gibson rather than (what amounts to) a special order for a big dealer. Thats MHO.
johnnybregar Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 Hmm - yes, it does seem that the New Vintage is only marginally different than the True. For $300 I think I can live with the stock finish. Are there any other Gibson dealers online that you'd recommend over Wildwood?
GT Hurley Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 As it appears. Gibson is now cataloging this guitar along with the SJ200 and Hummingbird new vintage's. The pricing is on Gibson's site as well. I think you would be safe to assume the difference is not visible but audible. GT

From a look at Gibson site, it appears to me that the bracing is the same on both: advanced jumbo style (forward shifted wide x) bonded with hide glue. Did I miss something? Red 333

Did I miss something? Red 333 I was looking at the Wildwood site (http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/compare.php?CategoryID=89) which listed the True V as having open X but not the New vintage .... but who knows. I'd probably go with the Gibson site as the more accurate. Bracing is certainly an important distinction.
