ccannon1 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 So I went to my local music store the other day and tried out a Les Paul Jr, instantly fell in love with tone and feel of it, but I require a neck pup too (Lead guitar in a Jazz Band, Rhythm Guitar in an Alternative band) and I had just seen the Melody Maker Special (Two P90's, awwww yeahhh) but my local music store doesn't have any in stock, so I'd have to pay for it before hand. I'm wondering if there is much of a difference in feel and tonality between the two guitars (which are relatively the same price?) Would the MM Special be a better buy? And the LP Jr Special is out of my price-range

And the LP Jr Special is out of my price-range I have the Melody Maker, and it is outstanding!! Much more versitile than the Jr. It sounds identical to my 60's tribute, but it is much lighter. The whole guitar vibrates as though it is alive. Barry Green-Burns
RUSHian Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 If you check my post about my MM purchase- Sam Ash has the Jonas MM for $499.00!! See my post for a pics.
strat-o-steve Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 The Melody Maker I think has a thinner body than the Les Paul Junior. A true LP Junior has a body almost 2x as thick as the Melody Maker. I own one of the cheaper Melody Makers with 1 single coil. It isn't a bad guitar at all! But I wish it had a second pickup. Other than that, the Melody Maker is very thin, very light, and I'm sure with 2 P90's it would scream too! The LP Jr. will bring more, or be more desirable if you ever choose to sell either guitar though. I doubt you will go wrong with either instrument, But if it were me, I would probably spring the extra for the LP Jr. Also, have you played one of the faded SG Specials, or the faded LP Studio's? Those are killer guitars, and just about within your price range too! Don't rush....take a few more weeks, save some more money and read / watch more reviews and continue playing these and other guitars. You will never go wrong by being patient and educating yourself on what you do and do not like / need. That way, you may be able to afford a LP Studio, which is an awesome guitar, or you can buy one of the cheaper ones and not be completely broke! :D
