S t e v e Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 alexi for me...you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLQunNhvcos&feature=related
Shnate McDuanus Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I'm more of a Bill Steer/Michael Amott guy myself. Carcass is real metal for real people. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmENcnXtwSM Go to 2:15 for the solos. The first is Bill Steer, the second is Michael Amott. EDIT: Stephan Gebédi (from Hail of Bullets/Thanatos) is also fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P2iqe-ZM0k&feature=related Skip to 2:41 for the solo.
S t e v e Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 XD, reply to my thread instead of posting counter vids...it fuks me right off mate, alexi or tom?
Shnate McDuanus Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 XD, reply to my thread instead of posting counter vids...it fuks me right off mate, alexi or tom? OK. Fine. OK. I'll respond to your thread the "right" way. Alexi's technique is better but his phrasing and note choices are very cheesy to me. Sam's technique isn't as refined, but his note choices are better and I definitely prefer his lead tone as well. That said, I really liked Alexi's solos on Something Wild, Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper. I started to get really tired of CoB in general on Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet?, and although Alexi's technique was far improved by that point, I feel like he and the band as a whole lost that awesome spark of creativity that made their first three albums so interesting. On the flipside, I dislike Dragonforce in general, but I think Sam Totman is a pretty solid guitarist regardless of the fact that I can't really listen to his band's music for long stretches of time. The first two albums they did were generally solid, but I felt that once Inhuman Rampage dropped they had run out of ideas. Come to think of it, Sam and Herman ran out of ideas while they were playing in Demoniac. Power metal and black metal vocals can mix, but not like this:
Kimbabig Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I don't know much about either guy, but from your video, I'd have to go with Alexi.
Morkolo Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I'll say Alexi Laiho, even though Sam Totman pulls off some stuff that I really like too.
Morkolo Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Paul Gilbert FTW Paul Gilbert doesn't even have to be on the list and he wins.
damian Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 All shredders are stunning in their skill, talent, grace, and songs........ [thumbup] ...... How could one decide that one is BETTER than another ??? Shredding is so much cooler than pentatonic wankery.........
S t e v e Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 Paul Gilbert doesn't even have to be on the list and he wins. that's why i didn't even bother putting his name up
