Now I've Gone and Done It

I started the thread a few weeks ago about a/b a Dove and 'Bird and ended up buying the Dove since I liked the sound better. Well, earlier this week, I stopped at another of my Gibby dealers and he had a beautiful 'Bird hanging on the wall. I knew I shouldn't have, but I picked it up and played it. Great sound. Then, the owner of the shop cut me such an unbelievable deal, I walked out of the shop with the guitar. When I got home, of course I had to compare it to my Dove. The Dove still had more volume and projection than the 'Bird, but the 'Bird had such a sweet sound that I hadn't heard in the one I had played weeks earlier.

The bonus is that they are such beautiful guitars, I almost just want to look at them sitting on their stands. My SB J100xtra, even though a great looking guitar in it's own right, seems plain by comparison. I've way over-spent my guitar budget for the year, but, boy, it sure has been fun.

And, I know, no pics, it never happened. If you remember in my Dove thread, I had never posted pics before but finally, with the help of a couple of you, managed to get a few posted. If my pea brain remembers how I did it, I'll gladly post some of the 'Bird.

Sorry for the rant, just had to gush about the new guitar.... O:)

Great story – To be in a dilemma between 2 and suddenly be able to get both, is deeply satisfying. Swinging between them will be a continuous fest.

Congrats on the wings.

We should see a few pics of the pair -

CONGRATZ!! As one who also bought a Dove recently and then shortly after bought a 'Bird....I know EXACTLY what you're saying.... while I love my 'Bird and it's a sweet, sweet guitar, the Dove is simply a better guitar...(maybe that'll change over time...but for now, that's how I feel).

As I've said, I play differently on the 'Bird than I play on the Dove....and the 'Bird is getting quite a workout lately, (fingerpicking "Blackbird" and "Ghost").

Lefty, the ironic thing is that I went to the shop looking for a J-45. Owner said that one was on order and should be in any day. That's when I spotted the Hummingbird. And, no, I'm not stopping back at the shop....must resist the urge to see the J-45 that will soon be there......

Oh, and I am working on pics, hope to have them on Saturday.

there is no substitute for a Hummingbird.. every guitar player should have one in my book... there are so many martin clones out there, but nobody has copied the bird yet... its madness... such a sweet and mellow sound!

Really went over the edge....visited my friendly, local Gibby dealer again and he had 2 brandy, spanking new J45's in boxes just waiting for me to stop in. Played them both and, of course, took the one home that sounded better to me, although there was very little difference in sound or playability. So, I'm WAY, WAY over my guitar spending budget for the year, but I've got 3 beautiful looking and playing Gibby's (not counting the Taylor and Martin that also found their way to my place). Oh well, only a couple of weeks left in the year so I can start all over.... :)

Way too many guitars and so little time......

No such thing as too many guitars. Lack of time to play them can be all too real, however.

Man, oh man!!!!! That's awesome. I've never seen a Dove in "person", so your pics got me gassing. There is only one music store where I live, and even though they are a Gibson 5-Star dealer, they haven't gotten any new guitars in for quite a long time. Maybe a reflection on the economy? Probably in my best interest. I would be hard pressed to pass on a Dove as nice as yours!
