brianh Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 And the best condition vintage Casino I've ever seen: That one looked like it just came off the showroom floor, it was a 9.9 / 10 with original brown case.
Supersonic Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 [love] [love] I love all of them, but I really LOVE this. '63 Frontier:
RobinTheHood Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Awesome guitars! Thanks for posting these pics. Get that Emperor F. Get it!!! I've never heard one bad thing about these or the Emperor T. I think the F is a little less common too. Pick up that Gibson SG Junior next to it for me while you are at it. J/K. Way out of my budget I'm sure. Also, that isnt an Al Caiola. Its a Professional. It looks similar to the Caiola and came out around the same time. But the Professional has an amp that comes with it and the effects on the guitar and all of the little knobs and switches dont work without it. Its a neat guitar, but if there is no amp there are no effects. I wonder how much they were asking for it. I didnt see a price tag on it.

So does it only work with the amp that comes with it? Are there just no controls at all on the amp?
RobinTheHood Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 That's cool. I was wondering what in the world all of those controls could possibly be for, but now it makes sense. Interesting idea. So does it only work with the amp that comes with it? Are there just no controls at all on the amp? The guitar will work without the amp, but you cannot use the amp without the guitar. All of the amp controls are on the guitar. This setup harkens back to the much earlier days of Epiphone when the lap steel guitars would control most, if not all, all of the amp functions. Here is what I have written in the wiki: The Professional outfit was sold as a guitar and amplifier package. All controls for operating the amp are built into the guitar and require the matching amp to be fully functional. The Professional is usable with other amps via the 1/4" jack on the top of the guitar. Utilizing the matching amp requires a special cable plugged into the guitar's multi-pin jack. As well as volume and tone, there are tremolo and reverb controls. Tonal changes are actuated by five Tonexpressor switches. The amplifier itself is 15w or 35w, and can not be used independently.
Whitmore Willy Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Brian, Now I know why I don't go to guitar shows. I'd be broke in no time! Thanks for posting the pics.,,,,At least I can dream. Willy

brianh Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Went back today to ask about the Matsumoku Emperor (F), but it was sold. Just as well, I shouldn't be buying more guits right now. brianh Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 I love all of them, but I really LOVE this. $5,900 on the tag - $5,500 show price for the Frontier...
grandmaster Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I'll be having good dreams tonight now. :D Those are some of the nicest guitars I have ever seen, wish I could get a few.
RobinTheHood Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Zephyr? DeLuxe. Well, technically, its called a Zephyr Deluxe; "Zephyr" meaning that it was an electric model, but part of the DeLuxe line. Archtops that were made in both electric and acoustic models would get the "Zephyr" designation for the electric models. Of course, there was also the Zephyr line of guitars that were all electrics, but they were not related to the Deluxe. The Zephyr line had notched-block inlays. The DeLuxe line had the cloud inlays or abalone & pearl V-blocks like the Emperor. Any of them with a suffix of "Regent" would be a cutaway model. Who is Harry Volpe? http://www.epiphonew...rry_Volpe_Model

RaSTuS Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Oh, and the "Crown of Thorns" guitar for Rastus: (Only $40k) Thanks a heap for thinking of me Brian, that is indeed right up my alley, until I saw the price tag that is. What makes it sooo expensive ???
brianh Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 Thanks a heap for thinking of me Brian, that is indeed right up my alley, until I saw the price tag that is. What makes it sooo expensive ??? Multiple wood types and hand made I guess. It's a mohogany body and neck, real brazilian rosewood FB and hand-carved "flakey redwood" top as well as some other woods. I thought it was hideous myself. Here are a few more of their guits: http://www.warriorinstruments.com/main/index.html
RaSTuS Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 I thought it was hideous myself. I like the craftsmanship in such guitars Brian, and the fact that they're unique, no one else will have one of them. I have a heap of hand carved guitars as you know, I think the dearest one was around the 3k mark.

I just found that "Crown O' Thorns" one to be ugly and in bad taste, not to mention ridiculously expensive.
