A.Crossfield Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 My last posting concerned a strange Strat-like tone from my LP that came out of nowhere...turns out that it had defective electronics. Thanks for the replies to that post. My question now is about the capacitors between the volume and tone pots. My understanding is that they are "trebile bleed" capacitors. Can someone let me know how these effect the tone of the guitar with the bridge pickup tone pot up all the way. The low end of my LP Raw Power is tight and responsive, but the high end is quite brittle and..as some would say..ice picky. Do these caps have anything to do with this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Various different capacitors from different manufacturers will affect tone in different ways but will not correct your issue as its not a drastic change such as a pickup change. Treble bleed mod is an introduction of a resister on the volume pot. (generally there is loss of treble when the volume pot is rolled down) The treble bleed mod will prevent the treble loss. ok so lets try to solve your issue firstly have you tried a different amp and had the same issues? Does the issue occur on both pickup settings? Have you tried adjusting the treble on the amp? Have you turned down the tone pots to eliminate the issue? was it resolved? Are the volume pots the original OEM parts? if not can you measure them? OEM is 300k and other mods can have a 500k (which will be brighter) are they the original OEM 57 classic pickups? and lastly and also importantly how close are the pickups/pickup in question to the strings on the treble side when you fret the instrument and the last/final fret? these are common factors for your issue for you to troubleshoot and come to us on and we can go from there it could be something as simpe as your pickups are too high and need lowering good luck and I look forward to hearing from you
