2007 Firebird Guitar of the week #24 with maple wings?

yes. i have one. love it! albeit i found it takes some real getting used to the banjo tuners. the low e travels so far from where it crosses the nut it takes some serious stretching to get it where it stays in tune, but once you are there, it's good.

the baby humbuckers as they are called clean up real nice and are super resonsive to the touch. it is a real looker which i don't just drag down to just any old gig..the case is enormous and pretty unwieldy, but gawd strap that on with a fresh set of wires pluged into your favorite amp and its very lush. in my estimation it's sorta like gibson's answer to a strat, but still got that gibson smooth that it looks like you are into from you instrument list. the knobs are pretty close together and wasn't too crazy about 'em so i replaced 'em with some of the gibson top hat looking knobs. seem easier to grab. the pickup selector switch takes some getting used to as well. seems so far away after years of brutalizing sg stds and LP classics and stds.

my profile pic was taken a a gig earlier this year when we were warming up for Foghat again. that was the first time i'd played it live, and i ran my vibrolux reissue through a marshall 4/10.

6 celestions and a couple tube screamers and it was definietly one of those cosmic guitar moments. i'd love to buy another one...really wanted the zebra wood wings, but by the time i was able to justify another damn guitar they weren't too plentiful. it is a beautiful instrument that feels great and really sings. wish gibson would do more stuff with finish like this. are you listening r&d dept?

got this guitar in the midst of a 12 day power outage here last winter and it was sheer torture to not be able to plug it in for all that time, but i was ready to declare it a national holiday after plugging in to my '57 tweed princeton. sa-weet! when ups showed up with it, i ran out to the barn and played it unplugged for a bout 3 hours and i knew that it was gonna sound great for some of what i do.

hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply! I needed to hear something positive to justify the purchase. I put some money down on one at my local music haunt as I have to buy it on the down low:-k ! My wife would freak if she knew another Gibson was coming into the house! I can't wait to get it paid off and home!

i hear ya bro. took a beating for this one myself. had it stashed in the closet in my office and she found it a month or so later. I took it up to the store where i teach one day to get it all set up for the aforementioned foghat gig and found a note from her in the case! doh! busted!

I am a pro who makes my sole living from playing/teaching/recording and i'm trying to get a few things that might be worth something later as well as put a smile on my face in the short term.

if i was a tradesman of any other sort, would the wimmin be mad if i had more than one wrench or more than one computer or whatever the tool of my trade is?

when i was a kid i pointed out to my mom that joe perry reportedly had 150 guitars..her response was something like , "well your're not joe perry are you? and you can only play one at a time..ah **** it's def worth it.

take your licks and then turn that thing up!!!!

I own one of these Gibson Maple Firebirds, its the best guitar i have ever played hands down, next to my dad's Gibson LP classic antique. I absolutely love this guitar's looks, feel, and mainly sound. It has so much resonance/sustain. I would love to own more, but being as theres only 400 in the world. but when you do buy one, examine it extreamly closely cause theres a chineese company that has a website called bizzarguitars.com or something that has a pretty good looking fake, but the only thing i can really tell thats different is they used a different peice of mahogany wood between the two walnut stripe strips that go thur the body. were the gibson one is a solid peice of mahogany, so just look at the grain patterns. other then that. if you have the oppertunity to pick up one of these rare beautys " do it"[biggrin]

Good for you, Mule. It's cousin with zebrawood wings was the first non-LP I really lusted after in a while. Why they designed the selector up there instead of down with the knobs area, I'll never guess. If your wife cooks, she probably has bowls and pans for a lot of different stuff. One plays different music with different axes, too. If you're investing in hard goods instead of vices, what's to hate if you save up?

I've had this baby home for a while now and love it. I get a great tone and it plays great. The boy's in the band say they like it as much as my Paul's. Thanks for all the info! I haven't seen any clones out there but I got this from a Gibson regional rep at a reputable music store so I'm sure she's for real. I had to lower the neck pickup but that's all I changed.

I think 2007 must have been a great year for Gibson. All my 2007 Gibsons are superb inevery aspect, quality, finish sount, action, materials ... etc ... I cant say enough.

I have a 2007 Firebird V Guitar that I am totally impressed with. The Guitar is near perfection. Before I bought it i was very skeptical because it was so different. Only when I got it did I erally appreciate its quality and construction. Superb!. The string height and action is so frightening low at first glance you ask yourself how can this be? No buzzing and its stays in tune.

The only problem I have is that since Johnny Winter Autographed it I am scared to gig or even practice with it.

GO FOR IT! [biggrin]

Does anyone know where someone might be able to purchase one of these? I know they're really rare, and it seems like these guitars just don't exist according to the internet. I've checked just about every online store I can think of, as well as eBay, and still nothing. Any suggestions?
