Robert Rocker Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 So, I have an 2004 Sg special, and I'm going to install a bigsby on it, and I was hoping you guys could give me advice about doing the install, and let me know anything else to do while i'm installing the bigsby
Robert Rocker Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 the B5, also i want to use the vibramate v5-st so i don't have to drill any holes in my guitar
damian Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Should be a simple install then......I'm putting a B5 on an SG as well....No Vibramate though....With the Vibra, you'll know how it fits, as the Vibra fits in a stud hole for you.....Schaller has a Roller Bridge that might interest you....Although I find that Bigsbies are stable without them....
EVOL! Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 ...i want to use the vibramate v5-st... I don't like them. It places the arm of the Bigsby in a funny place. Come on, it's an SG Special. Mount that B5 the right way.

EVOL - I notice you like yours back a ways. I do too. A factory set is usually (but not always) installed closer. Just sayin' . B) .
EVOL! Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 EVOL - I notice you like yours back a ways. I do too. A factory set is usually (but not always) installed closer. Just sayin' . B) . Gah! Please stop using that phrase "just sayin'". And I beg to differ. Check out this SG Deluxe w/ stock Bigsby copy against my SG Special
BigKahune Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 . As I said, not always. You can find them back toward the but end, and up by where the stop would be.
EVOL! Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 . As I said, not always. You can find them back toward the but end, and up by where the stop would be. Is that Bigsby original or is it covering the stop bar holes?
BigKahune Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 . The Deluxe is perfect for the variation I'm talking about. Here's a pic - . . . . . . . . . Everything SG More or less on the stop - Farther back -

Malchik Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If it were my guitar, I'd just mount the the trem right to the body. I can understand people being weary when drilling holes in their custom shops, but a special isn't really an investment.
Robert Rocker Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 you guys are on top of this subject, i still think i'm gonna use the vibramate, i know its a special, but its my only gibson, and as poor as i am, i don't want to mess it up
stein Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I think the Vibromate is a cool way to "start" if there are reservations. Just like you can remove it, you can always mount it to the body later. Besides, as of now, today, no info exist from anyone or any link on this forum on how to ground the strings.
Guest BentonC Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Pics when you're done is a must! Also, if anyone has one with the vibramate, I'd love to see a side-shot to see how high it puts the Bigsby...
Malchik Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Besides, as of now, today, no info exist from anyone or any link on this forum on how to ground the strings. The bridge is already grounded.
stein Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 The bridge is already grounded. Is the bridge grounded, or the tailpiece? I was kinda making a joke while kinda being serious-the issue has come up. The way I understand it, the tailpiece is grounded, but not the bridge. So...if that is the case, mounting the Bigs and getting rid of the tailpiece would leave the guitar ungrounded.
Robert Rocker Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 if it is the tail piece that is grounded, then using the vibramate (which uses the same post holes as the stock tail piece) will let it remain grounded, although i do believe it is the bridge that is grounded
