Thundergod Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I sold my Robot Les Paul and my Les Paul standard. For really good money, as Gibsons aren't everywhere down here. That leaves me with only one Gibby which is the best I've ever tried/played, surprisingly is the cheapest there is LOL. That takes it down to 7 I think... I sold 2 strats last week. I want to go down to 2 and then get a cheap semihollow/hollow, probably an epi or one of those godin kingpins. I think I'm not buying any more mid priced guitars anymore. And I'm probably not buying any expensive guitar either. I used to think Gibsons were expensive... how little did I know. But anyway, I can get fine guitars made for me for less than 2K so that's what I'm gonna do from now on. I had one done and just can't put her down, haven't put her down in 2 years.

Ok first off, I only WISH i had an arsenal like that to choose from. Also my favorite is a less than expensive member of the Gibson family. I too am looking in other directions for my next purchase. I have found a Texas company that makes a very nice, and more than comparable product to Gibson, At Gibson USA prices. Not saying that I personally will never purchase another Gibson, they are bound to release something I like in the future.
charlie brown Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Must be something in the air, or water?! LOL I traded in 4 guitars, for one, recently...(yes, it was a Gibson). I'm down, now, to the ones I really love, and love to play. There's no "filler" anymore. I could go even further down...and, I may(?) do that, in the future. But, it doesn't seem like it, right now. Still, who knows?! CB

Which luthier makes your guitars?
Thundergod Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Which luthier makes your guitars? His name is Santiago Estrada, is a local guy (I live in South America) who uses only exotic local woods. He built me one guitar, but I have played some made by him (which is what lead me to ask him for one made to my specs). He is also a great player and plays mainly with guitars made by him. For me to have been able to chose the wood pieces, be there when she was painted and worked on, was a wonderful experience, I guess it has a lot to do with how much I care for her, it's not like if she gets stolen I can go to a store and buy one of the shelf.
Thundergod Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 BTW I'm probably getting rid of the Peavey Wolfgang EVH custom and the BC Rich NJ special Mockingbird later this week. With that, I'll officially own no guitar with humbuckers.
zigzag Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 ...I'll officially own no guitar with humbuckers. No accounting for taste.
Californiaman Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I want to get a cheap semihollow/hollow, probably an epi or one of those godin kingpins. Have you looked at these holowbodies? Eastwood Airline Tuxedo and Tuxedo Deluxe. Eastwood Guitars or perhaps the deluxe model. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IK2vcpXOu4&feature=related
Tim Plains Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 What's your other Gibson? I think you need an SG Standard. Ever try one? His name is Santiago Estrada, is a local guy (I live in South America) who uses only exotic local woods. Mexico is not in S. America...
damian Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 There are few members of the Gibson Lounge who possess the combo of your talent, musical ability, and charisma....For anyone of lessor caliber to successfully downsize their amps, pedals, and guitars would almost be unthinkable......It is also great to have a luthier like Santingo Estrada build custom guitars for you.....Way too cool.....I'm not sure why you'd keep a Gibby though, since you are going all single coil though................ You set an amazing example for your students as well as to members of forums everywhere.......Thank you........ ( As you know, and have pointed out, I'm still learning a D major chord )

You should check out a Gretsch. Not a guitar I would normally buy but got one for Christmas a few years back. Awesome and versatile guitar!
Thundergod Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Gibson USA 2007 Melody Maker single pickup, modified to 2 fat singles and other stuff. Tim wouldn't touch it with a 6 feet stick LOL but I swear it's the best playing of all of them and it sounds great, this guitar is lots of fun, and it's so cheap I don't have to worry about her much.
Californiaman Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Is that the one you refinished and made some mods to a couple of years ago? Or am I confusing you with someone else?
Thundergod Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 There are few members of the Gibson Lounge who possess the combo of your talent, musical ability, and charisma.... I wish that was true, I have no talent, almost no ability and the complete opposite of charisma. For anyone of lessor caliberto successfully downsize their amps, pedals, and guitars would almost be unthinkable...... I have a big _____ so I don't really need a lot of guitars. It is also great to have a luthier like Santingo Estrada build custom guitars for you..... It's actually an honor to me, I've known the guy for years and most people hate him 'cause he knows too much and isn't too shy about it (best guitarist I've known, has more talent in his left hand pinkie that I have in both hands). Way too cool..... Yes it is. I'm not sure why you'd keep a Gibby though, since you are going all single coil though................ Single coil loaded gibby baby! You set an amazing example for your students as well as to members of forums everywhere....... Of what NOT to do? Thank you........ As Dem00n would put it, YOUR WELCOME! ( As you know, and have pointed out, I'm still learning a D major chord ) Really? Where did I point that out? Anyway, the D major chord is a good start. Next you should learn E minor.
Thundergod Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Is that the one you refinished and made some mods to a couple of years ago? Or am I confusing you with someone else? That's the one, the one that I broke a piece out of when moving the jack to the side and came here asking for help LOL she turned up as expected. BTW those guitars you posted look nice. I'll check for dealers and see if they are cheap enough
