EuroAussie Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Went to see Lenny Kravitz for the first time ever tonite. Admittedly I loved his first two albums (especially Mama Said) but thought he hasnt dont anything interesting for past 15 years. So went with pretty low expectations. Have to say though that from a live performance perspective he's still really got it. Great voice, every rock god trick in the book, really knows how to work the hype, and luckily for me most tracks were from the first 3 albums. But what really impressed me were his and the lead guitarists guitar choices - ALL were Gibsons ! I saw 4 LP's, 3 ES's, 1 SG, an archtop Jazz type electric and also ... a J-200 and a Hummingbird. Not sure if he's got a deal with Gibson but it sure sounded good, the tone was outstanding. Oh, Mrs EA thinks he's a bit of a queen and takes himself just a tad too seriously. Plus he's a short ***. However, definitely worth a visit if you want to have a good night out with some good r'n'r and a ridiculously good showcase of great Gibsons. Here's a poor pics from my blackberry with his J-200, we were lucky to have seats pretty close to the stage, about 20 metres away.
retrorod Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Man, that J200 swallows him up! I like Lenny! Good Stuff!
JuanCarlosVejar Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 he has been using gibsons for 20 years . but in the late 90's he also had a few taylor acoustics and guilds . but for his unplugged he used a red j 200 . he has like 4 or 5 J 200 at the moment . one has a winged bridge and metallic tulip tuners. another has the closed moustache brdige , and another 2 have the open moustache bridge .
ParlourMan Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 He looks like a hobbit sized guy next to that j-200..... I'm off out to a gig myself tonight, Elbow.. can't wait, should be ace.
jchabalk Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 per some new ridiculous google search feature: Best guess for Lenny Kravitz Height is 5' 7" Mentioned on at least 6 websites including imdb.com, celebheights.com and filmbug.com
ParlourMan Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Funny that most rockstar's are fairly titchy little geezers, eh?
EuroAussie Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 I think that would be about right. For the final track 'Let Love Rule' he walked all around the arena 'spreading the love' and walked pretty close to our seats and he seemed a good decent shorter than me, Im 5'11 so I reckon 5'7 was about right. On let Love Rule e played one of the most beautiful Gibsons Ive seen seen, but dont know the model as Im not super versed in electrics. But it was a really large, archtop, burst with full binding. Sort of look like a large jazz guitar. Just gorgeous. But my favourite was probably a Black Beauty Les Paul that he played on three tracks, just a mean, mean tone. btw: his lead guitarist is a splitting image of Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons, and I mean splitting .. per some new ridiculous google search feature: Best guess for Lenny Kravitz Height is 5' 7" Mentioned on at least 6 websites including imdb.com, celebheights.com and filmbug.com

I guess he has also earned the right to be a bit of a queen.
