JKHillSG Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 hi again, i recently purchased a gibson sg standard and found a little gap between the neck and the body closed to the top horn. i've had two guys at guitar center said it was fine but i'm just looking for another opinion. it doesn't affect the playing at all and i'm hoping it's just a cosmetic flaw. i'll post a link to a picture of it. thanks in advance http://s1114.photobucket.com/albums/k531/JKHillSG/?action=view¤t=sgneckgap.jpg
BigKahune Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 . That gap under the fretboard is caused by the neck-set. If the neck-set leaves a gap under the fretboard they usually glue in a filler piece. There probably a filler piece in there that doesn't come out to the edge of the neck.
anaconda Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 If you can still take it back i would have never taken it home. just tell them your not happy with it and have them order you another i know i wouldnt want it. let us know what you end up doing
strat-o-steve Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 It looks perfectly normal to me. That is just where the neck is set in to the body at an angle.....about a 4-5 degree pitch. Since the SG has a flat top, of course there will material showing above the body since the neck is pitched. :)
