Guth Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I had forgotten that I had made a recording with my Advanced Jumbo some time ago and rediscovered it today while looking for something else in my iTunes library. With all of the recent conversations regarding AJs, I thought I'd go ahead and share this. While not one of my favorite musical creations, it does give you an idea of how my AJ sounds. I think the strings were pretty fresh when I did this and knowing me, I would have been using D'Addario PBs. Rumble Seat
dchristo Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Guth, thats some great picking on a outstanding sounding guitar I enjoyed that, thanks for sharing
EuroAussie Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Bill, Ive always really enjoyed your recordings, this is no exception. The AJ sounds very good, but not as good as your J-45TV which is just divine.
Rambler Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The AJ sounds very good, but not as good as your J-45TV which is just divine.. Here's Bill's prev post of his J45tv for comparisons sake (hope you dont mind). http://www.billguthrie.com/music/j45tv_noodling_02.mp3 Similar, but some distinct differences. His AJs got that quick response across the board. Throbbing bass, bright treble ring. An aggressive, direct sound. Its going to cut through most anything. You can hear that long-scale tightness coming through. A pickers guitar. His 45tv doesnt have the same quick attack, so the bass is a bit more of a background thump but there is more bloom to the trebles. A breathier sound, looser, more nuanced. Might get lost in a crowd but a pleasing solo voice. This is the one you want to sing along with. Well, I do, anyway.
Guth Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Interesting observations guys. One of these days I'll try to set aside enough time to record both guitars with the same tune , same thumbpick, same fingernail length, etc. so I can post up a direct comparison. The feeling that I get when I am playing them is that there is no doubt that they are of two different personalities.
Jinder Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Guth, great tune and recording...the AJ sounds gorgeous on this, really sweet and old-timey tone. Of course it helps that it's picked with fire and skill, great job!
Guth Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Just realized I could turn this into an A/V (audio and visual) thread. Here's a pic of my AJ along with my "recording rig":
dchristo Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 good looking setup, how about play us another tune.
Guth Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 good looking setup, how about play us another tune. Thanks, I'll try to get something together here in the not so distant future. As you can see, "studio" set up time is no excuse for me.
