bill67 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 If you put a bigsby on a full bodied arch top, would it be louder acoutic or not, would it change the sound much?
StijnV Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Not sure if I have understood your question, but the Bigsby will only change the pitch of the sound, but it won't make it louder or more quiet.
JimR56 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I think any experienced luthier would tell you that changing the tailpiece on an archtop will contribute to a different tone, especially if there is a significant difference with regard to material (wood vs metal), size, mass, etc. You also may be changing the angle at which the strings bend over the bridge, which can affect tone.

It would be going from wood to metal, the angle would be the same.
JimR56 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 It would be going from wood to metal, the angle would be the same. Depending on any change in length or change in angle at the butt, the angle of the strings over the bridge could change slightly, which is why I said the angle "may" change. But I'll admit that this is probably the least important consideration among those I mentioned.
