donnie Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Folks, I just ordered a new '60' SG Jr. in Heritage Cherry and I'm pretty stoked about it. Gonna take 10 days or so to get here because of the holidays next week, but it won't kill me I hope. The deal that confuses me is that's it's a complete ghost with Gibson-not a hint of it on their website and so far it's even stumped their customer service rep. From Sweetwater's website (not where I got it) it looks like the model # is SGJ6HCCH. Is this guitar too old to be catalogued or too new? Just wondering what I have coming in...
Superdick2112 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 It looks like it's too new to be listed on Gibson's site. The description says it has a baked maple fingerboard, which is a feature Gibson didn't implement until after the recent "government wood raid" at the Gibson factory. Sweetwater has several Gibsons listed on their site which have not offically gone into production yet, including a new 50th Anniversary Angus Young Model - a model that is on "indefinite hold", as stated by Gibson to my local dealer. I hope Sweetwater had one of your SG Juniors in stock - otherwise it could potentially be a loooong wait... Good Luck, and be sure to post some pix when it arrives.

You got a link for that? Can't find the 50th Anniv. Angus anywhere at Sweetwater

I'm actually getting it from Wildwood, and it's on the way now. They still have it up on their site. It's just that Sweetwater seemed to have more information about it on their site. I will indeed post pics and a mini-review when it's here.
BigKahune Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 . Hope your wait goes well. . B) Nice looking guitar -

donnie Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 OH. MY. GAWD. I hope to hell that they find their way over here!!! GAS! Thanks, that's the actual one I'm getting that Big Kahune was nice enough to post. Only 6 more days now...
donnie Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 The knob placement drive me nuts. Yeah, I've read that on other boards as well. I've never owned an SG before so to me it just is what it is. I don't much care. And for $849.00 I guess I wasn't expecting an Historic re-creation.
Bob311 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 The SG junior 60s is now on Gibson's site: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/SG-Junior-60s.aspx
dc3c46 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I do not like the maple fboard. Love this SGJr. ! This was the first Gibson I owned. Really regret I sold it. How dumb. This one is giving me GAS, but BAKED MAPLE? I dunno. Give me rosewood or ebony and let me pay a bit more.

I dunno. Give me rosewood or ebony and let me pay a bit more. I'm thinking the point might be that they don't have any rosewood right now. And since they seem to be selling all they can build, I suspect that when they get it back it will be on some sort of an upcharged model. Why would they give it away at the same price if the models without it are moving well? Anyway, this guitar came in earlier than thought last night. First quick impression is that this board plays a lot like ebony to me. It is very tight-grained and sounds to me very warm-nothing like a regular maple board. Visually it is not at all that pinkish tan color I've seen in some pics. I've had (and have) rosewood boards that were lighter than this one by a good margin. I'll oil it up at first string change and I'm sure it will get even darker, but it's perfectly fine as it is. I'm looking at it right now from across the room next to a rosewood board and if I didn't know, well I wouldn't know! I do think the color varies somewhat with these and perhaps I just got lucky but certainly no complaints here. I'll post pics and a mini review after a few days with it.

Looking forward to the pics and the review! Now the GAS came back! As if I really needed another guitar again!!!!!!
