EuroAussie Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Theres a bit of hype on the AGF about the new coated strings from DR, The Dreagonskins. I made an order at strings & beyond as we dont get em here, put them on today. I tried them on my most problematic guitar when it comes to strings, the Rosewood SWD. I recently, and reluctantly settled on Elixirs as they were the only strings that kept their zing, and that is critical for this guitar to sound good before things start getting awfully muddy. First impression .... hmm, weird tone, quite mellow as if the coating was really hiding the real strings underneath. Not good. Also had to get used to the EB strings being cleraly coated, and gold, that was a bit of an adjustment. The good news is that after about 45 mins of quite hard playing the initial melow tone disappered and what I feel the true tone of the guitar came out, and I liked what I heard ! The tone is rich, natural and I agree with others that it doesnt sound like its going through a 'filter' as I alway feel with Elixirs .... teh guitar sounds natural. I like the tone, I like the feel .... the one million dollar question now is, will they last .... Ill report when the zing disappears, hopefully this will be at least in a couple of months ! Anybody else tried them on their Gibbys ?
BluesKing777 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Thanks for the review of the strings. I haven't tried them yet, but what a great name! Dragonskins.... BluesKing777.
