gotomsdos Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Why is Gibson J45 TV's rating so low ? ! Hi, buddies ! I'm considering buying a Gibson J45 TV. But I find, on Gibson official site, J45 TV's rating is only 8.2 ! by far lower than almost all other models (including J45 Standard, 9.6). The average rating of Almost all other models is over 9.5 I can not understand why. More guys say that J45 TV is great Why ? at my place outside US, I can not try one before buying. All I can do is to online buy. Those ratings more or less also come from customers or players.
J-1854Me Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Why would you accept the 'ratings' given online for such a subjective decision as buying an acoustic guitar? Much better to play the things than to rely on what others say. Let your ears be your guide. Maybe this thread on another forum will be of help too.
Rambler Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Or to put it another way, it's an unscientific sample.
BigKahune Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 . Online ratings are unreliable. Not just on Gibson's site, but anywhere. Ratings are entered for all kinds of reasons, including purposely bad from competitors or their fans, and purposely good from the company of the product being rated or its fans. Whether or not you get opinions from here or anywhere else, as already has been pointed out, take some time to play some samples and decide for yourself. .
EuroAussie Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Ignore them ... theyre just write ups from jealous Taylor metrosexuals. The J-45TV is an AWESOME, real mans guitar - buy with confidence !
ChrisA83 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 He said he can't try before buying... I couldn't either but mine turned out great!
ParlourMan Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Why is the rating so low? Haters gotta hate..... Guitars and the big three brands draw some strong support/criticism among each other, I suppose the underlying psychology is that there are many who can only advise you to buy what they have themselves, you'll often see such hilarious posts on many guitar forums that "Gibson's are way over-priced" only for the next part of the post to be singing the praises and lauding how cheap a 10k Froggy Bottom, SCGC, H&D is/was. Ultimately there are many people who like to hate on Gibson for a variety of reasons, usually these are not related to the guitars of today either, or they're re-hashing comments that could have been valid 40 years ago implying they're still a huge issue today which is more often than not misguided, or they're political on some basis. Do some research here on the TV model and you will see it's almost always followed by a series of glowing reports and a large percentage of these have been untried models ordered online. Ensure the store you will use has a no quibble return policy and is a Gibson dealer and you're as safe as it gets.
G McBride Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Heck even the US Government seems to hate Gibson at times. Gibson acoustics are great, I have three of them and two are J45. One is the standard model and the other is a Historic model. They sound similar but different. Buy it and enjoy. Don't judge it until you play it in for a while.
gotomsdos Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Thank you all ! oh i see... But strange is why J45 TV, all alone (only the one)! with such a low rating? Only J45 TV is the source of some hatred ?
EuroAussie Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I think its time for Guth to post again those two lovelly pickin' tunes he recorded some time back on his J-45TV .... this will put you in a state of blisfull contentment and awe..

Thank you EuroAussie! Sorry maybe I made myself misunderstood. I do believe J45 TV is probably great. But I just am puzzled of the EXTREMELY ABNORMAL phenomenon. That is, ONLY ONE, LOWEST with a very BIG rating distance!
Danner Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Ignore them ... theyre just write ups from jealous Taylor metrosexuals. The J-45TV is an AWESOME, real mans guitar - buy with confidence ! I came here to say this
jdd707 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Well if you really can't play one before you buy, all you can do is go by reviews and ratings. So look at as many as you can and I thnk you'll find that the J45 TV consistently rates well among a broad spectrum of reviewers. That includes me .... I recently played one and it sounded great and as if was already "played in". Go for it!
BigKahune Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 . Can't try before you buy. Unfortunate. Make sure whatever online shop you buy from has a good return/exchange policy. Try to buy from an online shop that posts pictures of the specific guitar advertised. There are some that do this, for example - Wildwood, Sweetwater and Music Zoo
JuanCarlosVejar Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 If you want the J 45 TV contact Fuller's Vintage Guitar . E-minor7 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 If you look back on these pages, the last thing you'll find is the J-45 TV rated ▼ low
slimt Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I wouldnt be to concerned about ratings... theyve mess up more than good.... I tried one this morning... Not a bad Guitar at all....
Pickax Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I bought mine sight unseen from an online dealer. This strategy may not work for everyone but I ordered two and kept the one I liked best. Sent the other one back for a reasonable shipping charge. They both sounded great so I kept the one that had a nicer top. I've owned a few J-45's - a 95 Historic Series and a 2010 model but the TV smokes them in terms of tone and volume. I recently bought a Martin CS21-11 from Sweetwater Music. They matched the best price I had found online, shipped it for free and gave me a 30 day trial period. That was a pretty low risk. It was my first purchase through Sweetwater (NFI) and it was a positive experience. I'd look them up again. Can't explain online ratings but I can tell you that my J-45TV is among the finest Guitars I've owned in the past 36 years of playing.
gotomsdos Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Fuller's they ship anywhere in the world RRREEEAAALLLLYYYY ? I do not believe. I'll find it out !! I have found few US stores to ship internationally. They say Gibson does not allow them to. I wonder why. At this point, I don't think US has an international vision.
gotomsdos Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 I recently bought a Martin CS21-11 from Sweetwater Music. They matched the best price I had found online Thank you Pickax for your experience ... Sweetwater gives me just a MAP price of J45 TV with 30 days return. I guess it's very high. so considering if there is a lower price than MAP.

I guess it's very high. so considering if there is a lower price than MAP. Sweetwater initially wanted the MAP for my CS21-11 but I told them there were a number of dealers who offered the Guitar at 40% off the MSRP. Upon hearing that, they decided to play nice. Do some research and find out who is offering this Guitar for the best price. E.M. Shorts, in Wichita, Kansas, may have the best prices on Gibson's anywhere. NFI. Sweetwater's 30 day trial period may be unmatched.

gotomsdos Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Yes anywhere !!!! It's big pity that, I emailed 12fret, he said he has J45 TV, but I find what their web shows is J45 modern classic with adi top which is not what I'd like. And I find very few of Canadian music stores have J45 TV, and fewer ship to Asia. Very disappointed.
gotomsdos Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 An article on a guitar site shows 7.5 points in Sound Production, about J45 TV, even though its content says J45 TV has a great sound. I'm at a loss. I wonder how it came, from just one guy, or many people. So low is J45 TV's point ? http://ultimate-guitar-online.com/gibson-j45.html Any review ?
slimt Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I wouldnt be to concerned about Ratings, Most ratings are from Armchair Critics that cant afford a cheap guitar let alone a good one and for the most part dont have no clue what there talking about.... The J45TV is a Fine Guitar.. but then again all J45s are Fine Guitars.. Like every other Guitar out there... there are Good points about those, and Bad points.. Its a preference of your Choosings..
