cherysunburst Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I have a Les Paul Deluxe that I bought used in 1979. An incident in the 80's involving a floor furnace and a lot of beer destroyed the original finish and any collector value, but it's still a great player. I have re finished it in a nice wine sunburst, but I'm having trouble finding decals to replace the signature and serial numbers, and a "deluxe" truss rod cover. The serial is 190074, and considering that I bought it in the 70's, I believe it to be a genuine Gibson. The Gibson logo is mother of pearl. There is a "2" stamped above the serial, which I believe denotes it as a factory second. What are my options? Thanks......Rob.
GuitarBuilder Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 For obvious copyright reasons, getting original decals is difficult, if not impossible unless you go to the Black Market...... However, there are plenty good copies available. You could try eBay or check this forum: http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/luthiers-corner/ The "Les Paul Model" may actually have been silkscreened, in which case you could ask a local luthier to replicate that.
cherysunburst Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Thanks! I believe the sig was silkscreened. I have found some decal's online, but I'd like to stay as original as possible.
badbluesplayer Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 You can find a "Deluxe" trussrod cover on ebay.
Guest BentonC Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 The sig would have been silkscreened. i would check with Gibson Repair- they may be able to assist with that: repairrequest@gibson.com
GibSinCity Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Not sure if this place has what you need, the website seems a little mysterious as to what exactly what they sell or how they do it, but... Here's a link, http://www.rockfordcarving.com/ from this post. http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/75950-gibson-explorer-mop-inlay/
