gotomsdos Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Hi, buddies ! A confusion : Gibson round shoulder is famous for short scale. I wonder why a scale can be short with Gibson round shoulder? since both long scale and short scale have 20 frets. Are fret distances of long scaled guitar and that of short scaled guitar equal or not equal ? if equal, how come short ? if not equal, both of tones (pitchs) accurate ?

struma6 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 The spacing between frets changes when the scale length changes. Figuring spacing is easy...take your scale length and divide by 17.817...the result is the spacing from nut edge to middle of the first fret. Take the remaining length (scale length minus first fret space) and divide by 17.817 again to get the spacing of the second fret and on until you have all your frets. The shorter length is warmer and looser feeling.
