Gibson For Life Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Hey guys, I'm up for new guitar in the coming weeks, most likely a Gold Top, most interested in either a Traditional Pro or Custom Classic... I haven't played neither, as my local shop is waiting for shipment on both guitars, so i'm keen to hear some of your thoughts & opinions? Cheers & respect
charlie brown Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I've played both, in my dealer's store. Ended up, with the "Classic Custom!" But, I have to say, the Traditional was a great guitar, as well. Had my dealer had a "Gold Top" version, it would have been a very difficult choice. But, they DID have a "Gold Top" Classic Custom (which I've bored you all, with the photos of, in past weeks), and once I got hold of that one, there was, absolutely, no looking back! It went home with me, and I'm still amazed, with it. Awesome looking, obviously, but...really sweet tone (stock Classic '57 and '57+), and Great playability! So, what's not to love?! I'd venture to guess, you'd be quite happy, with either one. It may, literally, depend on each individual guitar you try, and which "feels" (and sounds) right. CB
DiamondJig Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I have a TradPro 60's neck in WR and Love it and I would love a Classic Custom I think it's a great guitar. Always wanted a custom. They are basically the same guitar with the big difference of the fret board, Trad with rosewood and CC with baked maple. I have a SGMM with the BM board and I really like it, I've oiled it and it's getting darker with some nice grain. I have not played a CC yet but I think i would choose one over the Trad. But you can't go wrong either way, both are great LP's. Hope you get to play a few of both and take the one that speaks to you.
Gibson For Life Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 I can get my hands on a Trad Pro in around 2 weeks, unfortunately the Classic is anywhere upto 2 months wait... So my patience may be a factor also! I doubt you bored anyone with your Custom pics "CB" Infact i regularly go searching for your pics for another look :)
AlanH Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Trad pro also has coil taps, I believe so it should be more versatile and it certainly looks the part. If the one you try in a couple of weeks is nice and you've got the funds I wouldn't wait while every other mother's son gets his mits on it. Alan

Alan Good point regarding the coil taps, making it a very versatile guitar.. I'm actually pretty much set on a Trad Pro, really liking the look of a Vintage Sunburst as well as the Gold Top. Decisions... Decisions... Wish i could just buy both :)

Cheers & respect I am exactly in this same decision, i think at the end it will get to the feel but i will also believe the looks will make the final decision, this because they should both be great guitars
