ricestick Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Hi, My friend in Singapore bought a LP Custom 1957 GOLDTOP VOS(serial no. 701697). I understand that it was built with aging process and oxidized finish and scratches to make it look like a well worn legend. Bu this one my friend owns seems rather seriously oxidized and much scratches on the board(for electronic chamber of gtr back). Although these "imperfection" may differ from each VOS, these also might result from the bad condition where the guitar was stored and display in dealers. I just wanna make sure that my friend, a big Gibson fan, was not cheated. Also, could you please inform of which year that this guitar was made in? (701697= the 697th 1957 reissue goldtop produced in 2011?) Thanks

Tim Plains Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 It's not a Custom. The aging is normal for a VOS finish. Compare it to my Pearly Gates VOS.
RedSkwirrell Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Gibson Serial Numbers pdf (there's also this, for more recent numbers)
