AXE®
I use these. Cost a buck each. Cheap Bast*rd ... If you gig out and move a lot spend the money. If you hang out in the bedroom nekkid slathered up with lime Jello then... Spend the money... Jello gets slippery also ...
lpdeluxe
+1 on Schallers. I just bought a pair today. When I started gigging full time with a bass, it was obvious that it would be insane to trust my new bass to a standard strap button. The Schallers are well made, reliable and work. I install them at the upper strap button location; at the butt end of the instrument I put one of those leather loop strap retainers so I can feed the cable through so I don't do the cord-crotch boogie every time I turn around. I didn't install a Schaller on my ES-335 because of its peculiar button location. I didn't want it digging into my gut. All others get the Schaller treatment. ckledzepplin
i only use shallers
lpdeluxe
One thing I forgot to mention: before I install the Schaller on the strap, I use a leather punch to make sure the opening is large enough that the strap material doesn't bunch up around the threaded shaft, which can make it difficult to get the nut started. I use a 5/16" but a 1/4" will work. I don't know the metric equivalents.
vertigoPT
i got a custom les paul and its pretty heavy! wondering which brand of strap lock I should get? Dunlop Straploks
SRV-Zeppelin
I use these. Cost a buck each. Dunlop Straploks +9999999999 I love those things. they're cheap, durable, and effective. simple to get on and off as well. I've also always despised the thought of screwing things into beautiful guitars, as well (with the exception of pickguards, that is.)

Ren
I've had Schallers on my previous LP, and currently on my ES335 and Strat and would've sworn by them, until I got the new LP 08 model which includes the Dunlop Straplock Dual Design. These are definitely superior and are far less hassle when putting the strap on or off the guitar. You don't have to worry about lining them up or the strap-attachment turning (so that it doesn't line up). In making this comparison I'm talking about the Schallers that have a kind of horse-shoe shaped slot for the button on the guitar to slot into... elessar820
Dunlop Dual Design on everything. I could never really get a set on an acoustic usually due to the fact that the rear pin usually doubled as the jack, but my Ovation Elite came with them already installed which was nice. turtle
Dunlops...because the schaller buttons stick out too far and the nut on the strap used to get loose on me and turn . the plus to schallers is i think you can buy just the buttons so you can use the same strap with different guitars. i havent been able to find just the dunlop strap buttons. bobv
Those black washer things that R9 pictured for us have a tab so you can tie them to the strap and not lose them if you take the strap off the guitar. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Hardware,_parts/Electric_guitar:_Strap_buttons/Lokstrap_System.html If you click on "pictures" you can see how the two keyholes rotate around each other. They are a bit cumbersome to get on and off but they certainly work and will leave your guitar in pristine original condition. By the way I prefer Shallers. No, wait, it's Thursday - then that'd be the Dunlops.
