j45nick Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Started work on the "new" 1947 L-7 today. Step one was reconditioning the frets and fretboard. It's a tedious job using a wide variety of tools. The devil is in the details. The board was grungy and worn, the frets corroded and rough. Here's the result of a Sunday afternoon (four hours) of picky detail work. You can't really justify paying someone to do this on a relatively "ordinary" guitar, so you'd better learn to do it yourself. First picture is the condition after an inital naptha wipedown to assess the general condition of the board and frets. scrape, sand, file, polish, oil, and it slowly comes back to life, ready for more years of service. Not a very exciting piece of Brazilian, but the L-7 is really just the "workingman's" version of the L-5.
onewilyfool Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nick, can I send my L-7 over to you???....lol....great job!

BluesKing777 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nick, can I send my L-7 over to you???....lol....great job! He already has one! Send it to me.... BluesKing777. Seriously lots of stuff about archtops and resos all of a sudden. I know about resos, but not much about archtops. (acoustically I mean - have heard the jazzers Wes, Les and Dez?). Any nice clips, Wily?
