littlejohnny
Hi everybody, I'm thinking of getting a new pickguard for my '05 j-45. Don't ask for the reason, guess I just want to do something, or mayby because i want to see the white paint around the soundhole completely. Does anyone know where I can get a teardrop pickguard that fits? I looked at the batwing pickguards at www.terrapinisland.com and they would fit perfectly. thanks for any input

wonderful remark
I like the J50's pickguards.. on a J45.. If i were to change it.. I'd definitely go for the J50's pickguard..
TWilson
I put the J-45/J-50 tortoise batwing on my J-45, from Terrapin, and I love i! Shows the entire rosette.
bohemian
Just my opinion: The smaller the pickguard the better for optimum vibration and tone.
RogueBrit
I love the fire stripe guards, but i also like to keep guitarts as original as possible, so I would stay with the Gibson shaped teardrop - if you can find one that is...
TWilson
I'm not positive, but I believe that some of the earlier J-45's came with the batwing, like the J-50. Also, after I changed to the batwing, I noticed no change in tone or volume. Oh, except when I put on the Nanoweb 80/20 bronze strings. Sounds better than ever. If the pickguards affected the sound as much as folks think they do I'm not sure why they would put the batwing-style guards on so many other models. The J-50, SJ-200, J--150, J-100, Hummingbird, Dove, I think those guitars sound pretty damn good. Just my 2 cents.

zeebee
OOOOOOOOHHHH. I love polls. Its so American!!!! Seriously, hmmmm, the Batwing has an understated artsy elegance..design meets function I guess. It speaks of the old GIBBY days.

littlejohnny
Thanks for anybodys input. I ordered a batwing pickguard at last. I think the j-45 came with a batwing pickguard from some point in the 50`s throughout the 60's. I let you know how it all works out.
