SolidGuitar Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Today I decided to try and build a magnetic guitar pickup for fun. I want to try and build a guitar entirely from scratch and what better place to start than with the pickup. I built it into an Altoids mint tin. It is made with some rectangular ceramic magnets, Basswood top and bottom and some enamel coated wire. This is my first attempt at building a guitar pickup so it was a learning experience. It is pretty low output so I'm going back the the old drawing board to see how I can make it louder. I'm thinking of just going with an active preamp or something. I don't know though. Here are some pictures.
:oilpit: Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 That is so freakin cool. You should post a video!
HeadCase Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Some people have way too much time on their hands...
SolidGuitar Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 I don't have a guitar for it yet. I'll be sure to post a video of it once I refine the pickup and build a guitar for it. Thanks for the complement. It was either build a pickup or get a job.
SRV-Zeppelin Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Some people have way too much time on their hands... +1. I prefer to play my guitars rather than build them. No offense, SolidGuitar, it's sweet that you're building your own pups. I wonder what's going on with Tim's homemade Junior?...

ChanMan Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Most impressive sir! I think pups work off inductance, so more windings on your coil may increase your output. I think. Maybe. Good Luck!
