benway63 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Just purchased an Advanced Jumbo from Guitar Center and need to know what gauge strings this comes with so I may replace them correctly. Can't find that info anywhere so far.
jdd707 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Just purchased an Advanced Jumbo from Guitar Center and need to know what gauge strings this comes with so I may replace them correctly. Can't find that info anywhere so far. But don't be too concerned about replacing them "correctly". Try several different brands and sizes to determine what works for this guitar and your playing style. I like the Elixer Custom Lights (.011 - .052) because it brings out the highs and the overtones while allowing me to bend the high end strings. Congrats on your new purchase. Post some pictures for us.
struma6 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I replaced mine about a week ago (2nd change since I got it...) using EXP 12's. I've become a huge fan of EXP! I used 13's on the change before. The 12's yeild a nicer tone, to my ears anyway! Congrats on the AJ, I LOVE mine!
Jinder Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Benway, congrats on the AJ-great choice of guitar! I'm a recent convert (was an SJ200 man for many years until a shoulder problem put my '200 to bed for good) and I can't put mine down...so warm, responsive, loud and malleable. I REALLY dig the AJ. I use Martin 80/20 Bronze 12-54s on mine. Sounds great and really kicks out some bottom end and hot highs. The AJ is loud and bassy enough to go to 11-52s without fear of loss of tone, and plenty talk about using 13-56s with 'em to really drive the top. Your milage will undoubtedly vary, but personally speaking I'm inclined towards sticking to 12s, I've used 13s on various guitars but had some bellying issues and other probs due to the extra tension. 12s are more than enough for me. My luthier uses 11s and, when I used 13s, used to chuckle at me for using "telephone wires"! Having said that, chuck a set of 13s on a Hummingbird or Sheryl Crow and it instantly becomes a GUN.
scott s. Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I like an "in-between" gauge on mine. Martin med-lights (12.5-55)or John Pearse New Mediums which are like mediums on the top 3 strings medium lights on the bottom 3. Light gauge were fine, but these in-between gauges just feel better to me. BTW, I had contacted Gibson regarding the proper gauge strings for the AJ. Their response was: "We recommend light gauge strings. We recommend no heavier than medium gauge strings".
