dc3c46 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Anybody got one? (I do mean the Fuzz Pedal!) I have the intention getting it. Anyone with experience playing it?
bluesguitar65 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 YUP! I made a video of it against the big muffs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHWfStMYKdw

I remember reading the comment about the "hair leg" I didn't realize it was you. I think I remember Cali'man getting one. I'm sure Fred has one too.

ftgjr Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I used to have one but sold it when I bought an EQD hoof fuzz. The Swollen Pickle had some very nice sounds but the hoof got me the sound I was looking for. I own several Big Muff type fuzzes.
krock Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 When it comes to fuzz's there are just so many to pick, you just have to see the PGS youtube channel to see hundreds. But the factors you have to look at are the price, smoothness and whether is compatable with your playing style. Out of the 3 in bluesguitar65's vid I prefer the Muff with TW but thats just a personal choice. I prefer its slightly less agressive and smoother sound.
Silenced Fred Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 The swollen pickle is super tweak able and can get super smooth with the internal knobs if you wish

There aren't many people rockin EQD on this forum. EQD pedals are really nice. I've had the Hoof, Sound Shank, and Hummingbird and all of them were really well made and nice but I ended up selling them all haha Bluesguitar your video inspired me.. I should record a Big Muff shootout with the different Muffs/Muffy fuzzes that I have when I upgrade my phone.

Dub-T-123 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I actually sold the Hoof like a total r-tard. I thought the mids control worked like you turn it up all the way for the most mids but I think that's how you make it most scooped. I used it at band practice and just couldn't cut through the mix at all so I sold it because I thought the mids control was useless but really I was just using it wrong. It's ok though, I really don't need a Hoof haha I'll tell you what though man.. That Dispatch Master is callin my name. So is the Bit Commander.

I'm selling my modded NYC muff to my new bassist and I'm trying to sell my baby thundeaa sooooo...
S t e v e Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 why buy a fuzz pedal?, if you wan't that sort of sound then just turn the settings down on your overdrive/distortion pedal...right?

How's that goin? well, he's this kid i've known for a while, never knew he played bass. he had some awful p bass copy with the action stuck at like an inch high, nothing was adjustable. so he went from that then bought a ric 4003 ******* **** man
Californiaman Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hey, I've already viewed this on Youtube a few months ago! I remember reading the comment about the "hair leg" I didn't realize it was you. I think I remember Cali'man getting one. I'm sure Fred has one too. I didn't get a Swollen Pickle. It was the Green Rhino MK II (an overdrive I highly recommend). I do have some nice fuzz effects though. My favorite is the Fulltone '69 Slight Return. I've also got the Big Muff Pi Germanium and the HBE Ultimate Fuzz Octave. Hope you find one that suits your needs.
Sinner 13 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I had the Fat sandwich, no matter how i tweaked it it was to brittle, as is my Ruetz Mod rat, BUT..... The EHX Russian Big Muff is quite possibly the finest pedal I have ever owned.

The EHX Russian Big Muff is quite possibly the finest pedal I have ever owned. If you like that then you should really try some better Big Muffs. Not trying to be a jerk but I thought the same exact thing until I played some actually good Big Muffs and the difference is night and day. The black Sovtek Muff is actually the worst quality and the worst sounding Muff I own (including my own DIY Muff).

Dub-T-123 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 By better Big Muff, I meant nothing currently made by EHX haha. Check out some boutique builders like Skreddy, Basic Audio, Stompunderfoot, etc, or maybe try building your own. Buildyourownclone has the Large Beaver kit, or for less cash you could build on some vero or get a nice PCB from madbean or something and source your own parts. I officially knew what I was missing when I got my Skreddy. The knobs actually WORK. You can turn down the sustain control and it still sounds good. The mids switch helps it cut through in a band.. It won't break for the forseeable future.. All very good things. And that's not even mentioning the toan. Oh god the toan!

That Spooky Tooth From Basic Audio Is pretty good, gets that nice buzzy Skunk Baxter ala Steeley Dan thing. Thanks for the leads, I'll let you know what I finally decide on.
Dub-T-123 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Yeah the Basic Audio stuff is really cool. The builder, John Lyons, is really cool and knowlegable and he does a lot of custom stuff. If you send him an email he can help you get just what you're looking for. I believe his Scarab fuzz is some kind of Muff, but he has lots of other cool fuzz. I also just saw a Skreddy Pig Mine up for sale for $190 shipped. If you want I'll PM you a link, it will probably go pretty quick though as they're pretty saught after and they've been discontinued for a while. I would have already bought it if I had the cash.
ftgjr Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 I love my Green Russian Big Muff and Hoof fuzz pedals. I sometimes stack the two to get that Black Keys "Live at the crystal ballroom" sound. Here are some demos.

Nah, just gonna buy myself a Futureman for Christmas. I like how it is described as the missing link between OD and Fuzz, I emailed John last week got a pleasant and prompt reply. His customer service and his pedals are top notch in my book.
