Queen on Paladia

Anyone seen the Queen Montreal Concert from [i think] 1981 when Freddie was still with us, healthy, and at the top of his game?

Brought back some good memories and was even better with a great set of headphones.

Anyway, for you youngsters that can't figure out why so many of us keep harping on the classic rock era, check out this gem on Paladia if you get the chance.

Good stuff. [thumbup]

Haven't seen that but I did watch the making of a night at the opera that I downloaded. Very worthwhile.

I'll look for that concert though. I love that stuff.

YES!

I wasn't never a huge Queen fan....'til I watched that concert!

Freddy was unbelieveable! Brian is the smartest guy in Rock.

I don't usually go negative on a band, and not to take anything away from the talent of May and Mercury, but I think Queen's songs are terrible.

What I find humorous is reference to a 1980 concert as being "classic rock."

I always figured "classic rock" was pre-Beatle. This stuff I figured was "newer post-Beatle" material.

Guess that shows my age.

Alternatively - some of you might just wanna figure maybe you're not quite as old as it seems in comparison to the 20-somethings.

Well, not going to start the whole eras of rock debate again but generally "classic rock" is mid-60s to late 70s. But it's all rock-n-roll. The concert just happened to occur in 1981.

And Queen is terrible? I mean even I don't like all their stuff or even all the songs in that concert but 4 pretty amazing musicians IMO.

Yeah I'll never understand getting on a thread that praises a band just to tell the rest of us they suck. What's the point.msp_confused.gif

First of all, I didn't say that Queen was terrible, I said I think their music was terrible being careful to credit their talent. Second, someone in another thread made the statement, something to the affect, that if you didn't like Queen, you can't appreciate classic rock. Total BS. That's my point.

My apologies. I should have left my criticism on the bands- you- don't- like thread. But while I'm at it, there are some who think that just because you're classically trained, that gives you some super song writing ability or some other superior power. I don't think so. In fact, I think the way they use their classical influences is one of the reasons I don't like their music.

No harm no foul. Everyone has their opinions and preferences.

I happen to appreciate Queen, Yes, and a little group called Kansas because of all their classical backgrounds and influence. They tend to put together "arrangements" rather than just songs.

Kansas's best work most people haven't even heard.

I also like Yes and Kansas (and ELP), and not because of their classical influences, but because I Iike their music.
