blueslespaultone Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 So I received the Gibby lp 50s tribute with humbuckers yesterday. Plugged in through the egnater. 1. Only issue was that the back strap button was machined a bit big for the button to fit right It was deep in the cavity. 1st initial thought was it was dropped and nailed into body. After inspection it was all good. Replaced it with a larger one and used a small washer And it's an issue no more. 2. Fret edges are gonna need a little tlc. Other than that Zero issues. Perfectly intonated out of the box, thought I was gonna have give it a complete setup. Ok now getting back to where I plugged it into the egnater tweaker 40, Brit mode clean then gain, Pure les Paul what I call kaChunk with distortion, cleans are very nice too. Neck is chunky but not too much just right. Satin back finish feels like my HR62 strat. This guitar is perfect for me, I'm a huge strat guy. But a les Paul in the arsenal is a must, Don't you agree? I'll post pics later, gotta go to the jobby job
LarryUK Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There shouldn't be any fret issues. It's been 'Plek'd'.
blueslespaultone Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 Your misunderstanding, Fret edges. as in they stick out of the fret board, but just a tiny bit.
AlanH Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There shouldn't be any fret issues. It's been 'Plek'd'. Only the nut is plek'd on these.
charlie brown Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 A good "fret dressing," should eliminate that problem. Also, if your fingerboard is "dry," they will tend to stick out, more. That happens, even to a well dressed frets/fingerboards, during really dry seasons (Winter), with furnace dried air, being the "norm." So, if lemon oil or some other fretboard conditioner doesn't do much, have the ends dressed, and keep the humidity at 40 percent or a bit more. Cheers CB

Is yours one of the new dark backs with the baked maple boards? I hear baked maple is great! Alan
BigKahune Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 .... a les Paul in the arsenal is a must, Don't you agree? .... Yep. Agree. Waiting on the pics. . B)
LarryUK Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I thought all of them were plek'd now. It should still be ok.
blueslespaultone Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 It's great, I ordered an epiphone hsc for it.
strat-o-steve Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 All Gibson's are Plek'd, but some only get the treatment for cutting the nut. The more expensive models are the ones that get the full Plek. Even that isn't a guarantee that there will be no fret buzz ;) the Plek is only a machine that replaces a skilled human worker for fret dressing and such.....and machine's can't "feel" when something is right or wrong. But machines do what they do in a consistent manner at least :)
AlanH Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Here's mine for a comparison of your baked maple vs. my rosewood. There doesn't look to be a lot of difference does there?....... Mine's a light back, BTW. Alan
blueslespaultone Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Nope not at all. I love mine, btw Fwiw, I didn't think I was gonna like the darkback, But I love it.
