EVOL! Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Just installed a Schaller roller bridge on my SG Classic. Super smooth installation and the studs fit right in the tune-o-matic's bushings. My problem is I miss calculated the bridge's height so now my action is too high and I cannot get the thumbwheels to turn to lower it. They are gorilla glue tight. Anyone have this issue? Think it might be a good idea to apply some WD40 on he threads with a Q-Tip? Or should I just loosen the strings, lift the bridge, and get a grip on the thumbwheels with a small pair of pliers?
Searcy Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 You can pick the TOM up with a little pry bar and adjust the thumb wheels. Stew Mac makes a tool for this but if you're crafty you can improvise something. Be sure to protect the top. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for_Bridges/Tune-o-Medic_Bridge_and_Tailpiece_Tools.html

I don't want to hijack this thread, but it fits right in the studs? Might have to edit my christmas list then... tuning is better?

Hijack away. Yes, the posts/studs fit right into the tune-o-matic's bushings. So far I like the bridge a lot. Super smooth like the Wilkinson on my SG Special and exponentially improved tuning with the Bigsby. Never thought I had that much grabbing/binding with the tune-o-matic's saddles, but I did. Have yet to plug it in and see if there is a noticeable tone difference. Unplugged, sustain seems unchanged. BTW I got the situation figured out. I took a pair of pliers and used it to get a grip on the thumb wheels and turn them. Action is now right and the guitar is ready to rock; minus the fact that detuning and retuning over and over has shortened the life of these strings.

My tuning doesn't go crazy, but if I use the Bigsby, I'm tuning after like every song, usually the b goes out or something. Not too bad, but still. keep on keeping on
