Pickguard or no Pickguard?!!!

Hey guys, I'm playing guitar on live TV this Sunday for a local hospital benefit. the other day while getting my fretboard oiled, I took the pickguard off to see what my LP looked like naked and was pleased by the results. Now I can't decide whether to take it off or leave it on! Leaving the pickguard on gives it a classier, more laid-back look, whereas taking it off looks awesome and gives it a more agressive feel, although the binding sticks out more. (maybe I'm analyzing this way too much?...)

Keep in mind this is purely cosmetic, and has nothing to do with playability, etc. This is just for one gig.

For solid colors, on is better. It offers the eyes a break from the one color.

For most wood grains, off is better, as it allows the natural wood grain to show through. Unless, of course, your wood guitar is butt ugly, and then anything that covers it up is a good thing... eusa_whistle.gif

I wouldn't even think of drilling the holes needed to install the gard that came with my premium plus.. I like the looks without it.

Never on my Premium Plus either. But on the black finish having it on does look better to me. Hmm, maybe we should have a poll on what finish looks best with a pickguard and what looks best without it.

My HC sunburst never even came with one (bloody uk dealers... Mines don't even give case candy)

I haven't installed one on it because it looks brilliant without it.

My goldtop came with it on, and looks better with (having said that, when you play a gig, and you get the light reflecting off of it, it's a thing of beauty).

Thing is, my goldtop has 2 p90s and pretty soon, i'm going to put a humbucker in the bridge.

It's gonna be a pain in th A$$ to get a pickguard for it...

I voted for ON, because that's what I would do with an ebony LP. But isn't the question here kind of about your band? Are you more classic and laid back/lighhearted? Or more aggressive? Since it looks good both ways, consider message.
