SRV-Zeppelin
Hey guys, I'm playing guitar on live TV this Sunday for a local hospital benefit. the other day while getting my fretboard oiled, I took the pickguard off to see what my LP looked like naked and was pleased by the results. Now I can't decide whether to take it off or leave it on! Leaving the pickguard on gives it a classier, more laid-back look, whereas taking it off looks awesome and gives it a more agressive feel, although the binding sticks out more. (maybe I'm analyzing this way too much?...) Keep in mind this is purely cosmetic, and has nothing to do with playability, etc. This is just for one gig. Thundergod
Leave it on... least you want them to think you are playing a PRS... :D

:oilpit:
It really depends on the finish, I have a Desert Burst and I personally think they look really ugly on them But on heritage cherry like Tim or on a Black Beauty. ON
ChanMan
For solid colors, on is better. It offers the eyes a break from the one color. For most wood grains, off is better, as it allows the natural wood grain to show through. Unless, of course, your wood guitar is butt ugly, and then anything that covers it up is a good thing... hbpatter83
I wouldn't even think of drilling the holes needed to install the gard that came with my premium plus.. I like the looks without it. HP
1982CARLPEMGS
Without a doubt...OFF! Looks much more aggressive/hard core & rock & roll! Personally, I think the pickguard breaks up the otherwise classic lines of that beautiful LP shape...to me...it's more "classy" w/it "OFF" than w/it "ON". marvelboy_04
on a black les paul, definitely on, but on some lighter burts, id say maybe off. sometimes.
rocketman
I wouldn't even think of drilling the holes needed to install the gard that came with my premium plus.. I like the looks without it. Never on my Premium Plus either. But on the black finish having it on does look better to me. Hmm, maybe we should have a poll on what finish looks best with a pickguard and what looks best without it.

pippy
As we're only talking about two screws how about on for one song, off for the next, back on for...........:)
Craig10119
My HC sunburst never even came with one (bloody uk dealers... Mines don't even give case candy) I haven't installed one on it because it looks brilliant without it. My goldtop came with it on, and looks better with (having said that, when you play a gig, and you get the light reflecting off of it, it's a thing of beauty). Thing is, my goldtop has 2 p90s and pretty soon, i'm going to put a humbucker in the bridge. It's gonna be a pain in th A$$ to get a pickguard for it... Aaresz
I prefer the classic look. Therefore, on!
Witmer
I voted for ON, because that's what I would do with an ebony LP. But isn't the question here kind of about your band? Are you more classic and laid back/lighhearted? Or more aggressive? Since it looks good both ways, consider message. </$0. 02>
Witmer
What does that mean? That's "beating a dead horse"...old American idiom for a waste of effort, or pointless exercise. Never seen that emoticon before, and it made me chuckle.
DuaLeaD
My Supreme looks MUCH better without the pickguard, so does ChanMan's axe.... Though I think that's probably the exception and not the rule.... Eye of the beholder I suppose....
