Pickup angles

I just got my Robo SG, and the angle of the pickups to the strings is very steep, esp the bridge one. the front of the bridge pickup is about 1/8" closer to the strings then the rear. I tried to adjust the angle but can't because the pickup is mounted to the flat pick guard and only goes stright up and down, no adjustment for the angle. I tried rocking the pickup to be level with the string and the sound does seem to change, but I can't keep it level and play and the same time to real check the difference.

I see the only current SG with angled pickup rings is the 61 reis with the small guard.

I was thinking of buying a cheap replacement and cutting out the pickup holes so I could fit angled pickup rings thru the pick guard and not sitting on top of the guard as I don't think that would work.

Has anyone tried anything like this ? Does the pickup angle real matter, change the sound that much ?

NO need for that much trouble. Get some foam rubber blocks and place one under the low side of the pickup. Just be sure the foam is soft enough to give when the pickup is lowered but firm enough to resist the pickup tilting.

I think I've seen that some people use stiffer springs to fix this as well.

Good luck

this is how the majority of flying V's seem to be showing up in every shop I go into that carries them, inclduing the V i just got yesterday.

Bridge pickup's front end is angled up almost touching the string while the back is dipped down. Neck pickup is fine.... is no mounting rings the problem?

seems like a silly thing to have to do to a brand new guitar... unless that angle is intentional, in which case I feel like an a$$

If it is too close to the string to cause any kind of interference, just lower the pickup into the body.

It being angled upward is not is not going to effect the tone especially in that small of increment, so unless the symmetry bothers you THAT much I'd let it go.
