guitar-mick Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Hey there guys, theres a guy here in Edinburgh selling A 1974 gibson SG for £850. Before you ask I haven't got any pics, but the seller says its in very good condition. I dont know whether a case is included. Do you think £850 is a good price? Thats about 1700 US Dollars, but guitars are always more expensive here in the UK Thanks, Mick
guitar-mick Posted October 23, 2008 Author Posted October 23, 2008 Hey there, just found out it doesnt have both the original pickups, one of them is a dimarzio (over 10 years old). The original case is also included.
AS90 Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 If its in good condition then £850 is a good price, I see dealers selling them for around £1000. I have done a lot of research into early 70s SGs for my own '74 SG project (cost me £167 in the end ).
SRV-Zeppelin Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 A friend of mine has an original 74 SG (all stock) and after playing it I would say it's worth at least $1700.
dickey Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 A '74 SG is really not a very desireable guitar in terms of collectability or aesthetic value. They are pretty good players, but by 74 Gibson had so destroyed the look and feel of the original SG's and they had become quite ugly and cheesy looking. They are, however, good workhorse guitars, just like the early '70's Telecaster Customs and Deluxes, but it's like riding a foriegn motorcycle VS. a Harley--Lots of fun, but you hope no one sees you! I definitely would not pay more than a few hundred dollars American for it myself, though!
