EuroAussie
And it aint a Gibson ... but one which Ive come across and it stayed in mind as a couch / fingerpicking guitar. I would be in particular interested from the parlour / small body owners here and pickers how you rate the tone of this guitar ? Its a solid cedar top and solid rosewood b/s. It has a 1 3/4 nut. I played it in a shop recently and found it be very comfortable. And ....its only $400 new. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzTghs9bsPM
dchristo
sounds pretty good, and also loud....if it feels good to you, get it
j45nick
Sounds good for a small-bodied guitar. Surprising bass volume when finger-picked--almost overwhelms the upper mid-range. Hard to know how much of this is just the characteristics of the mic, as it seems to be an omni that is fairly far away from the instrument. Pretty amazing for $400. zombywoof
Hard to really make a call from a recording. I have not played that partticular Cort but have played a number of others as my favorite little local shop used to carry them. Generally I thought they were well built and sounded pretty good. The thing I did not care for on some was the finish. I just didn't like it. If you like a wider nut you should try a 1 7/8". You also might check out the Recording King small body instruments. Cheesy looking plastic tortise shell binding on some but other than that I thought they offered alot of bang for the bucks.
EuroAussie
But Zomby, what was your impression of the tone from this video clip ? Id be interested as your an old time picker if i understand it correctly and know a thing or two about good tone .. :-) Hard to really make a call from a recording. Guth
That guitar has a number of qualities to it similar to a classical guitar, and does not sound very versatile to my ear. But then look at Willie and Trigger. We all like different things. Based on the video, that's not my cup of tea. But to each their own.
sboiir
If that sound is true and not adjusted through the mic or ??? What I mean to say, is if it sounds in your hands like on the vid. And feels right to you. $400 is a steel. If it was available where I live, I'd be an owner ! It seems to have that natural characteristic that age will do wonders for. Beautiful small body with great sound. Wish I was lucky as you to have it for sale in my area. Best of luck with your decision.
hsech
I think it sounds good and I like the idea of a 12 fret parlour size. I'm wondering about the actual sound though. Sounds like a studio mic set up or something, at least on my computer.
ParlourMan
Hard to fault anything there at the price-range, I've got a Martin 0-28VS, and the 'Keb Mo' sig, I wouldn't say there was 2-3k worth of a difference against this little fella to be honest.... I'd say tally-ho if you fancy it... careful though, small body 12 fretters are addictive
EuroAussie
Was downtown during lunchtiome and popped into the dealer again as I was in the area. They still had it, so had another go, this time with a closer ear and details. Was pretty disappointed second time round. It had probably around 50% of the tone compared to the video. The depth and resonance just wasnt there. Granted strings were older than before but the experienced ear can tell a good guitar even with old strings, and I wasnt hearing it. I knew if i bougth this specimen I would be disappointed pretty soon despite the boning and string changing. So this ones a pass. However I will keep an eye for them and if another comes through the is more reminscent to the vid specimen then I might have a go. You never know with these korean / chines mass produced gits, they realease a lot of poos but also have the ability to strike gold with some specimens. Will also keep an eye out on Eastman parlours as all the ones have been consistently good and also at a friendly price range where i wont care if something happens to it. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestion folks, much appreciated as always !
