tamarind
Hi All I am now the proud owner of an SG Reissue and Super Sonic 22. My first 'real' setup. Its love :) However I'd like to raise the strings just high enough to be able to play some slide. It didnt occur to me that the reissue also comes with the old model tune-o-matic. Do i really have no choice but to loosen the strings, turn thumbwheels some random amount, tighten strings , test the height/feel, loosen again etc etc I wonder if i might be better off just taking it to the store instead? Any suggestions would be great as this is all new to me. Cheers Mark
tamarind
Action adjustments are almost always trial-and-error. A "pro" can't predict what's going to work for you. Welcome to the real and rewarding world of DIY. But there is a guideline you can use: 1/32" of bridge height change translates to 1/64" at the 12th fret. OK thanks. I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. I changed it all in half an hour with out any issues.
DKoor
I don't think SG is a complicated guitar in a manner Strat is... I hate when I have to change something regarding action on strat, it usually means also trem cavity screw adjustment too (never really connected these things but it really seems that when I change saddle height or neck tilt the action I have to adjust trem screws too). For the love of life I couldn't tell you why is that as I don't really get all of it. But with SG that all is fairly easier providing that neck is in fine condition.
