dc3c46
Playing with the idea getting one more amp and I am quite impressed with the Dr.Z MAZ 18Jr. Handwiredand at a reasonable price for the quality and tone. Anyone play a Dr.Z ? Opinions?
Californiaman
I spent some time playing the Maz 18 and the Prescription recently. Both are great amps. Check out the prescription. You might find you like it too.
KL
I have a Z Wreck. It is the best amplifier I've ever played through. Since I have got it I have been progressively selling all my other amplifiers as they have become irrelevant. Dr Z amplifiers are incredibly well made and they are designed to bring out the very best tone possible from your guitar. The Maz 18 is, I believe, the best selling Dr Z amplifier. They do sound amazing. I have heard nothing but good things about them. A Maz will be my next purchase. The Z Wreck is a VERY loud amplifier and so I have decided that a Maz 8 in addition to my Z Wreck will be the perfect combination of amplifiers for everything I do. The Maz 18 is also a loud amplifier. Don't be fooled by the 18 Watts. Z watts are loud watts! If you need volume and more clean headroom then a Maz 18 will be great, but if you want to use it at home a lot and for smaller gigs I would consider a Maz 8. You can mike a Maz 8 up at larger gigs if you need to. You have a choice between two main Maz 18 models. One has reverb and the other is NR (non reverb). If you go over to Z Talk (The Dr Z amp forum you will find out a huge amount of information about the Maz range and all the others too. Dr Z also makes some good attenuators (the AirBrake and Brakelite) so if you go for a Maz 18 you might want to consider one of these too.

I did compare the MAZ18 with a few Fenders I had laid my eyes on and for my idea of an great sounding rig it blew them all out of the water. Even the new EC Twinolux did not trigger the "Wow-Effect" whereas the MAZ was to my liking all over its range of tone. And I do already play a Lonestar Special head plus 2x12 cab which gives me a more than pleasant sound. The MAZ however is completely differnt in its own way. Of course I shall get it with te BrakeLite. These two amps should be a heavenly match when played as a stereo rig. Thanks for the advice - shall keep you guys posted! C.J. Thundergod
I built 2 1x12 cans for a Carmen Gia head (I think that's the name) and it was amazing. The amp sounded really loud and at higher volume you got great slight OD with single coils and a little more with humbuckers.
