He wanted 1200 for the '99 LP Custom and 600 for the '65 Twin reissue. I gave him 1600 for the pair. My intention is to flip the LP. The Twin's fate is unclear. I may flip, I may keep. I had a '74 Twin for 10+ years and it was dog tired so in '97 I swapped it even for a pristine 1988 Peavey Classic VTX, which has been my living room amp ever since. I'll do an A-B comparison knowing I can get $600+ out of the Twin and maybe $200 out of the Peavey on a good day. However my experience (and memory) is that the Peavey had much more boost/cut in the tone circuit and a reverb from Hell. The LP is nice and pretty but doesn't have the mojo of my '71 gold top.

I am issuing a shame on you for selling either of these items, especially flipping them. You got a killer deal on both and my guess is the seller thought he was selling them to a player who would make some sweet noise with them. Don't be part of the reason the used market is so F'd up.

If it was me,I'd hang on to these babies for myself for a while. The '65 Twin Reissues are getting rave reviews as being very faithful to the original in tone and performance,my buddy bought one as soon as they hit the market and when he plugs in his Teles it really brings out all the Tele sparkle and spank. The Les Paul should sound just beautiful with a few clean jazzy riffs being played through the Twin. All in all they are well worth keeping-at least for a while.

Good for you. I know you have probably bought and sold a lot of guitars over the years, but that seems to be a phenominal deal for the LP. Did you you know the guy? Or were you just really patient about waiting for something to come up? I only ask because I never see prices like that for guitars like that. Well done.

I've met the guy who owned them but don't really know him. He had bought the set 10-ish years ago... he may have bought the LP new, I don't know. He put the pair on consignment at the local music store a week or so ago. There was a lot of interest of course but people around here don't generally have that kind of money for LPs, regardless of the 'deal'. Even so, I knew I had to jump on it.
