sboiir
I stumbled onto a rather large slab of mango. As an amateur builder, I wonder if any of you have experienced mango for back and sides or even top or neck wood. I would like to use this slab wisely,so asking for any input before beginning a build of a monstrosity

Versatile
mmmmmmm...interesting.... Notwithstanding initial levity Could be an interesting project.... Seems to be catching on as a furniture wood Seasoning would be important as for any instrument material Regarded as a sustainable source...so very 'Politically Correct' Look forward to any developments The only question is...acoustic or electric?.... j45nick
Acoustic or electric ?? or classical ? I'm in the decision making process. Also a main question "how about using it as Neck Wood"????? For necks, you want a stiff wood with straight grain, which would exlude most of the mango wood and trees I have seen. We have a lot of mango trees where I live, and even big ones do not have the kind of trunks that make good timber. Most of the mango furniture I have seen is made up of fairly short/narrow pieces glued together to form tabletops.
sboiir
j45nick ....Thank you for the neck response ". Any thoughts as to classical guitar body and sides with the Mango. My wife is a classical player, but won't let me buy her a guitar. She says it's OK to buy one, but it is mine, not for her. Strange cookies in the jar..... Jinder
My wife has a Mango back'n'sides baritone uke with a Cedar top. It sounds sweeeeeeeeet-absolutely brilliant. Based on that, I'd say it favours nylon-strung instruments. Could be well worth a punt on a classical guitar for your good lady wife :-)
