Mmmmm

I love me some Big Muff. My first pedal was a black sovtek Big Muff and I've always loved them since then. My faves are the Supa Tone, green Muff, IC Muff, and civil war Muff. I also dig some other fuzzes that sound kinda Muffy but aren't really Big Muffs, like my Devi Ever Hyperion and Soda Meiser (that I just sold :/).

I have a bit of a Big Muff obsession, I'm not gonna lie.

When I used such things, I preferred this, but I don't think they make these anymore, not for long time. This is newer than what I remember, we used these big old giant boxes, and the LPB 1 which plugged right into yer amp.

I've gotten good sounds with the LPB2 [thumbup] Also used the Double Muff for a while. Both could drive an overdrive into a frenzy! However, I've never been a fan of the Big Muff. I like the sounds others get out of them, but it always sounded too scooped in any of my rigs.

I have a circa 1970 Big Muff Pi and although I've bought and used other pedals I always come back to the Muff.No other pedal can come close to the Muff for its violin like sustain and the ability to use it for controlled feedback.I have found it indispensible for doing Hendrix covers.

My Big Muff only wants to play Black Sabbath :).

I agree on the sustain; it's immaculate and completely organic-sounding. Makes any guitar sound like a Les Paul.

I love 'em. I have an American Big Muff Pi, and a Russian one. I like the sound of the Russian one more. It's smoother sounding or something.

Yeah I've heard the Russian ones are a bit "creamier," or less grainy.

Are they even made anymore? Where can they be bought??

They're not anymore and the most recent incarnation (the black Sovtek Muff) does not have the sound of the old green Sovtek Muff. You can buy them used still.

If you want a new one that's more consistent and more practical, there are some nice clones like the Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian and Earthquaker Devices Hoof. The Hoof also has a mids control.

I'm pretty crazy about the Supa Tone variation of the Muff. I think I'm gonna try to record some demos of mine.

I knew I had one somewhere....

It actually belongs to my brother who bought it in about 1978.

From Twiz' link to the excellent (but deathly slow) site it would seem to be a V3 (edition 2). I've had it since about 1980 as he pretty much gave up playing around that time.

The middle knob might be from an old early '70s low-end Fender of some sort. I can't remember exactly. The original was lost a long time ago!

Co-incidentally I dug it out for the first time in 20-odd years just a few weeks ago when flight959 was around. It would be accurate to say that I don't use it terribly much......

Here's mine. msp_cool.gif

That's a very old photo. It's on my pedal board now.

I used to have that exact one years ago. I also had a Small one that plugged directly into the amp (my first effect pedal). It had an on-off switch and no foot switch so it wasn't very user friendly. I replaced it with the Big Muff Pi. Can't remember what happened to either of them.

What's an IC Muff?.............I've absolutely no idea what you mean, Dub! Sorry ! ! !

I'll get a snap of the innards posted tomorrow morning.

If you're unlucky there might even be a sound clip.........

A Big Muff that uses "integrated circuit" chips instead of transistors. It has a more gritty sound kindof like a cross between a Big Muff and a Rat. It's probably my favorite incarnation of the Big Muff and I would freaking KILL for an original.

I think you may have to remove the pots to get a shot of the actual components, but you could probably tell just from the bottom of the PCB anyways.
