Bluemoon
My LP hums when plugged into both my Fender and Epi Valve JUnior. If I touch the strings or any other metal area on the guitar, the hum stops. Must be a grounding problem with the Les Paul. So any suggestions on what to look for and how to fix? SRV-Zeppelin
I have the exact same problem! and i thought I was the only one... The amp does not hum when the cable is unplugged, does hum with the cable plugged in, hums plugged into the LP, does not hum while pressing against the strings, and does not hum at all on my SG. I'm assuming from this evidence that it's the LP. How to fix? not a clue. I was actually about to ask the same question...
Ian Martin
Have you tried using the amp in another room? How about a different building? Is the problem still there? I'm pretty sure it is a grounding problem.
SRV-Zeppelin
good point.... I can now clearly remember playing my LP at a gig a couple weeks ago and had no troubles. (that's a relief as I'm playing on live TV tomorrow for a local hospital fundraiser telethon.) Thanks again Ian!
djroge1
Sounds like a ground problem. Good advice thus far for moving the amp to another room/area. Also try to stay away from fourecent lights. If the problem still exists the simple thing to do is to remove the plate on the back and look for loose wires. Gently give a tug on the wire connections to see if anything came loose. Also look at the solder joints - do they appear shiny or dull? Dull is an indication of a cold solder spot. That's where I would begin. Best wishes.
