jdriehuis
Buying a LP classic antique next week although I have been looking at standards and classics aswell. But what is the main difference between the three? Jeroen
Tim Plains
Classic vs. Classic Antique. Different pickups. The Classic Antique has binding around the headstock and both have been discontinued. The Standard has a few other features. Why not check out gibson.com? All the info is listed there.
jdriehuis
I already found out that bit of information but how does the difference in pickups relate soundwise?
ckledzepplin
the classic has ceramic pickups that very high output and many people find them harsh sounding. the Classic antique has a 57' classic in the neck and a 57' classic plus in the bridge, both of these pickups are low output alinco II magnets and most people prefer this combo. the standards have Burstbucker pro's, which have alnico V magnets which are a little more output than the alnico II's, so it is kind of inbetween the 57's and the ceramics. also all of these models are chambered which makes the sound a little brighter.
