EuroAussie Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 We just had the what Gibby did you buy in 2011, well i though we could also do the other side .....reality vs dream and ask which Gibby do you plan to buy in 2012, and how realistic is it, dream, done deal, lottery win or just finishing adding up the saving? For me the only Gibson guitar that keeps on sticking in my mind is a Hummingibird True Vintage, hard to get this guitar out of ones mind when they are popping up and looking so splendid on this forum all the time. But as I said earlier I would buy it if we win a major new account (I run an ad agency and pitching for a major regional account) which i will know results in beginning of March ....counting fast
blindboygrunt Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 hummingbird would look nice next to my j45 . but its a dream/lottery win at minute i'd also like a little bluesking or something of its ilk, but after j45 the hummingbird is the one i drool over
Eyecon Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I've been wanting a SJ200 sooo bad. I just love everything about the guitar, the tone, it's versatility and of course the LOOKS! Unfortunately there are not any dealers within 500 miles of me that have any to audition, so I will have to go blind and probably buy one a few years old. I remember someone posting that (could have been "EA" that said it) Maple takes a few years to reach potential. So buying used will not only save money, but will hopefully sound better than NEW.
j45nick Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Don't tell my '48 J-45, but I'm looking for an SJ or another J-45 from the same period. Or maybe a small-body. And maybe an L-5. It all depends on what I come across this year that strikes my fancy. Definitely into vintage rather than modern. I would love to find a Gibson with playing and tonal characteristics similar to my 000-28 EC, so I could think about going all-Gibson. Well, almost all Gibson in any case. I have a couple of guitars that couldn't be replaced with Gibsons.
GotTheSilver Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I have my heart set on getting my dream guitar - a vintage Southern Jumbo! By vintage, I mean pre-1955. Could be a banner head or not. I just need to save up the money, which will take quite a bit of time, probably not in 2012, but I need to be disciplined and committed! It will be awfully hard to forego a Jackson Browne and one of those new Fuller's 1943 Southern Jumbos in the meantime.
zombywoof Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I was not planning on buying any guitar I own - they seem to find me or I just stumble across them. But the ones I would most like to show up would be first a pre-65 Hummingbird and after that a Jackson Browne. There are also those days when I just think I should sell just about every guitar I own except the National Duolian and the 1960 J-200 (which my wife loves) and just suck it up and go buy that Nick Lucas. I would be willing to lay odds though that given the thickness of my wallet and my taste in guitars, if I do buy a Gibson this year it will be a Kalamazoo KG-14.
JuanCarlosVejar Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm gonna get an Original Jumbo done :) . It just looks so cool and I've heard clips of old trojans, old J 35's and old Aj's on youtube and they sound great. so I wanna get one of those and see what I can do with it =D. I'm gonna put and order in the next few days !. and it would be probably the only lefty JC
E-minor7 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm buying one tomorrow. Exactly which is still a secret, but it could be said people here 'know it' as it crossed this very Board last year. A bit risky and very mysterious, yes – thrilling though. . .
Danner Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm looking to buy a rosewood dreadnought. Frankly, I'm leaning toward a D-21 Special at this moment.

Tman Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 A J200. I just have to figure out how to convince my wife that I need one.
BluesKing777 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'm buying one tomorrow. Exactly which is still a secret, but it could be said people here 'know it' as it crossed this very Board last year. A bit risky and very mysterious, yes – thrilling though. . . And? Secrets? Not allowed here on this forum, Em7! Fess up! BluesKing777.
BluesKing777 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I have no intentions of buying any more Gibsons, but I recognise symptoms - looking thru eBay and online shops, looking at JT's guitars, looking at everyone's Hummingbirds.... There is an irresistable FORCE and the Forum is the Source. (Poet and don't know it?) I have an itch for a vintage L-00, Nick Lucas, L-0, L-1, L-2, L-3, LG-2 (that one came from ZombieW and has been bubbling under the surface since looking for LG1s on eBay). We shall wait and see where the cards fall................ BluesKing777.
ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I've no real intentions of buying anything else, but then I had no real intentions of buying most of the gear I do have. While they weren't 'whim' purchases by any means they weren't exactly long drawn out then executed plans either... The only GAS I could muster now would be for a HBTV model and if I were starting again from scratch, it's perhaps the first one I would go for, but then I'd be GASsing for what I already have anyway... All I'm after is a K&K system for my SJ-200TV. Getting hard for me to justify anything else, I have a few small bodied 12-fretters, slope shoulder, the SJ-200, resonator and then the electrics.... I don't really get a hard time for buying new gear, but realistically there are other avenues I could steer the money towards.
sboiir Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Small body vintage 12 fret. Does a B25 qualify ? Lg2 ? Any thoughts?
brannon67 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I will probably be getting a Song Writer Special.
Duende Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I am quite fascinated with the Gibson Midtown standard with the Bigsby and also have had my eye on The Gibson Robert Johnson guitar for a while. I am not sure really, I seem to have everything I need to do what I do, but I do love guitars though, so who knows! Matt
ParlourMan Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 If the Robert Johnson had just been a 'label sig' like the Woody Guthrie I would have bought one, but I can't deal with that inlayed sig on the board..... shame.
Jeremy Morton Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I am looking to buy my first Gibson Electric ES-335 fat neck. JM
j45nick Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I am looking to buy my first Gibson Electric ES-335 fat neck. JM You'll like that fat neck. I have it on my Nashville Historic '59 ES 335. It feels a lot like the Gibson acoustic necks of the late 40's and early 50's--a nice handful. (Don't get smart, Wily!)
Nick Beach Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 My next acoustic will be a J-45 TV. It's a done deal in the sense that the J-45 TV will be my next acoustic, but I've really neglected my electric rig during the past couple years of acoustic love, so that is my focus for 2012. But if I can get all the stuff I'm looking to get for my electric rig sooner than I expect, then I may grab the J-45 by the end of the year.
Harmonics101 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I need to add some east indian rosewood to my Gibson flock. All i got now is mahogany and maple. I don't have any red spruce on the Gibson side either. That's why my ears perked when I saw that Sparrow thread and that guitar would feed both needs (i.e. red spruce and EIR) I dunno why i have never been enamored by the Songwriter ? Just hasn't grabbed me like the AJ. So of the choices that EuroAussie has presented, i'd vote for the AJ !! Harmonics101
