EuroAussie Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 And have 10K spare, but take a look at the pics, serious drool material ... http://www.taylorguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2882916#post2882916
ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'd agree with you, one of the nicest I've seen, would love my brand new SJ-200 to be as aged, worn and lived-in as that one.......
EuroAussie Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 Hit a few more tennis balls with yours and you might get the 'aged' look quicker than you think PM .. ;-) I'd agree with you, one of the nicest I've seen, would love my brand new SJ-200 to be as aged, worn and lived-in as that one.......
ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Hahaha, jeez no, the SJ200 is still in the babying phase, although I have progressed to leaving it out the case a bit..... Once it has a pickup and is being gigged a fair bit I'll stop worrying about it.... On the other hand I could go into the relic'ing business for acoustics and start my own little business.... who wants to send me their guitars? Anyone for Tennis?
BigKahune Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 . Nice guitar, big money. Here's another SJ-200 10 years older at Elderly that's been shown here before - $125K . .

I had one, it was a 1939 , six saddles, brazilian Back and sides, very Simuler to the one Stan has listed.. , it went to Japan in 1995 .. It brought a strong Dollar. over 85K.. as for the 52.. I had one and sold it to a buddy... I got 7500 out of it in 1996.. he will do well with it..
Del Nilppeznaf Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 just read the Question about vintage Southern Jumbos thread.. there is amazing knowledge and info here.... gotta say... I love this forum :) if this is 42? before war... would any similar condition j-200 be as valuable Edit ( duh ... just realized war started in 39..haha,,, well it is new year...hic!! )
ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 85K? ... 125K??? Freak examples of Supply & Demand, nothing more, nothing less. I'm thrilled that the people involved are making a big score, but it does reek of shower room 'mines is bigger than yours' when it's that kind of value or in that market sector. Above the cost of a very nice production guitar using high end materials of your choosing what do you get? Custom order for that 'involved' experience? The Kudos of going Boutique? A little around the same or perhaps slightly more you get the 'vintage instrument' tier for the yesteryear lovers... but 85-125K and above is a whole new ballgame, utterly ludicrous, diminishing returns on an epic scale and that's making the equally ludicrous assumption they will even be played.... The power of Hollywood Dentists, Lawyers and upper-end financial players in effect! The 10K one is a lovely looking example but I've never seen a guitar that looks worth 85K never mind 100K. I do however wish to point out that I would dearly love to have a large room full of them so I could get people to part with those sort of figures in exchange for them. ;) ...someone else's insurance and maintenance nightmare.

I know its maybe a differnt ball game..but dont even modern instruments like cello's ect', go for like 40 grand.... and up. I wouldn't want to gig with a 100k guitar tho...haha ( but those classical musicians..regularly 'gig' with very expensive instruments)
EuroAussie Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 I wouldn't want to gig with a 100k guitar tho...haha ( but those classical musicians..regularly 'gig' with very expensive instruments) The one I put up is a relative steal at only 10k .. ;-)
ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Oh this is very true, but I wouldn't say a 6 figure sum instrument was 'better' than an excellent production example using the best materials by the margins that price would suggest. It's just the elitism in play, the privilege of ownership being open only to the wealthy. I don't think it makes any great difference which instruments we refer to, there will always be the unachievable icons for the vast majority of us be it classical or otherwise. I can't imagine that there's a guitar out there that I would say plays more than thirty times better than my SJ-200TV, that's what the difference would suggest/be if we discount aesthetics of aging, the laws of supply & demand and the elitism that accompanies them. ..I really do wish I had a room full of them though ;)

Great thoughts on similar topic in Question about vintage Southern Jumbos thread..concerning old equals better. I wonder if 20th century guitars will end up being as sort after as older century classical instruments... I think they may ?

I too, wish that I had a roomfull. I have had some very nice vintage guitars through the years, but was never able to realize 'obscene profits' from any of them. I guess that I am a good buyer....not a good seller.
retrorod Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 . Nice guitar, big money. Here's another SJ-200 10 years older at Elderly that's been shown here before - $125K . . That back is absolutely gorgeous!.... But that kind of money would buy a third of my home/property...Yikes!
BluesKing777 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 The first one for 10K is pretty reasonable I thought. The one at Elderley's for 125K? Well, it is all relative. If you have a lazy few million lying around and wondering which Gibson next? In consideration! But if you are BK777, you were GIVEN 125K to spend on Gibsons, you would buy the absolutely brilliant brand spanking new Tobacco sunburst J200 at the Gibson shop, and buy a handful of vintage L-00s and Lg1,2,3's! Etc, Etc... BluesKing777.
slimt Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I had no problem in selling my SJ200 for that kind of Money.. .... It bought alot of Early D18s, D28s, and Early Gibson Flattops. They all made there ways to Nice Homes....... its a obsession.. , once your hooked.. Your Hooked,....

ParlourMan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I'd more than happily swap it to be able to play 30 times better than the quality of my SJ-200TV anyday though... ;) I'm sure even the best of the best couldn't argue with that.
slimt Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 How long ago? Did they go overseas? Jes' curious! If I remember correctly...alot of the vintage Guitars went State Side. alot did go overseas... . time frame 1993 to 1996..

Oh Yeah, That was when the market was strong on vintage. Way before the Real Estate bust in this decade! Them were the days! Thanks for the memories... <_<
