Even though all i wanted for Christmas was money, my mother kept insisting on a small gift so after some smooth talking and a good use of a coupon i got a Kustom 5H and Cab for a good price. :D

I bought this to do mods but in reality i dont really think it needs mods, i really like this amp. At 16ohm's it can get loud enough to deal with a drummer. All i really think i need to do with this amp is to change the made in china tubes. It works great with pedals to, i think i dont wanna mod because i'm most afraid i'm going to lose that great tone with the Torns Peaker.

Anyways here are pics.

Neat amp, I don't know where they are produced now but Kustom originally came from Chanute, KS about an hour away from where I live. My uncle actually just added a 60's Kustom bass amp/cab rig to his collection. Looks exactly like this:

i have this little guy. and i love it.

change the power tube (el84) and the pre amp (12 ax7) and watch it come to life, the stock tubes are junk, once i traded them out for some EHXs its been a totally different sound and its a good thing.

i run mine full blast all the time with an attenuator and i dial back on my guitar to go from dirty to clean.

honestly this amp is the best 100 bucks i have spent on a whim in a long time. i saw it in the shop and though smeh,..for the price of a pedal i get an amp.

deal.

enjoy man!

ps, when i brought this in to be biased for the power tube. the amp tech told me its a "cathode biasing" amp or something along those lines. aka.. its plug and play. no need to bias.

this is what i was told. and its been about 3 months now with the new tubes and not one problem

Since acquiring a Lock out space, I have been shopping for a "Bench Amp" to have just to noodle with and use to test repairs.

Looks like this is the best bang for the buck.

Thanks for the great post dem00n.

Aw man. I didn't even know they made a class a amp. Very cool. Cheers to your new amp day! Sound clips when you get a chance...

Btw, I love my old Kustom. It's got the best clean sound, the reverb rules, and the built in tremolo is very cool/weird.

I had the Kustom Defender 112 combo and i have to say it was/is a great amp for the money, just a little too loud for me....Very very versatile, you can use 6L6´s or EL34´s..no problem with the "auto bias" switch....

A hundred bucks you say?

I love those old tuck and roll sparkle vinyl covered Kustom amps from the late 60s.I used to go to the music store that sold them when I was 14 or 15 and just lust over them hoping to own one some day.Sadly that wasn`t to be,by the time I could afford one the company had gone out of business and people were holding on to them and still are.I wish one would come along in my neck of the woods,I know that the store that sold them back in the day sold a large number of them and where we are a small area of about 150,000 people they are most likely still being used in someone`s basement etc. as they were almost indestructable and it`s very conceivable that a good number of them lasted. You did well with your catch.
