Does anybody not hate Nickelback?

Nickelback are like the new Spice Girls, they sell millions of records but I can't find a person who admits to owning one. I've never really cared for them and today I was reading the new rolling stone and one of my favorite groups, the black keys, gave their opinion of Nickelback and I couldn't have put it better myself. Thought I would share with you guys in case you wanted a good laugh.

"-Patrick Carney is pretty sure he knows what's ailing his chosen genre these days. "Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world," he says, blowing cigarette smoke out the window of his rented East Village loft a few days before the band heads to L.A. "So they became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be **** – therefore you should never try to be the biggest rock band in the world. **** that! Rock & roll is the music I feel the most passionately about, and I don't like to see it ******* ruined and spoon-fed down our throats in this watered-down, post-grunge crap, horrendous ****. When people start lumping us into that kind of ****, it's like, ‘**** you,' honestly."

I will admit to having one album - their second one... the one with Never Again on it.

They haven't done anything worth buying since in my opinion.

The biggest band in the world doesn't have to be ****, but unfortunately somewhere out there is a bunch of people who buy whatever the record industry says is good.

I can't wait to see the days return when the biggest band in the world is a band that people are proud to admit listening to like Led Zepplin was to the 70's or the Beatles were to the 60's... or, dare I say it, GNR was in the 90's.

The sad thing is, Nickelback even laughs at themselves and the whole "Nickleback sucks" thing in one of their videos from a few years ago. At least they have a sense of humor about it, but it's still pretty sad when even Nickelback will admit they suck. lol [tongue]

Even though their stuff can sound repetitive in large doses, as most pop rock bands do these days, I like Nickelback ok. In fact I think this may be one of the best top 40 pop rock songs of the last 10 years.

Some joker in The Black Keys posturing as some sort of authority on "rock and roll" for an interview in Rolling Stone is probably the best laugh I've had this week. When he's done the Marlbl he should put on one of his own records. I'm pretty sure he'll get farther through it than I've ever gotten.

When you get to a certain point in life, you don't really care, and you don't really have to care, that the kid next door uses a Squier to record bulls hit. And you do yourself a great service by not sitting around pointing at people that sell more singles from one record than you've sold all records combined.

When you are in the business of selling records, you should remember that. Nobody asked the Black Keys or Nickelback to be great bands, they asked them to sell records and be on Saturday Night Live.

Yet more advice from a crusty, bitter, experienced old guy: Dude from Black Keys? SHUT THEF UCK UP.

Don't like the song much but I liked all the cameos in the video

I like Nickleback. I'd disagree that they are the "biggest rock band in the world", but then opinions are what they are....

So where is the "Record Industry" website so I can go see what other bands I have to like.....

[biggrin] I can say in complete truthfulness, and with exceedingly great pride the I have NEVER, EVER listened to a Nickelback tune in my life. I may have been exposed to a few spurious bars here and there, but I could not even name for you one song they have recorded, or a band member, for that matter.

[rolleyes] But I don't HATE them!

Nope, I don't just another liberal biased rag. I would say to the Black Keys guy " Don't hate the playa hate the game ". It is what it is, sounds like jealousy of success and broad appeal. Maybe they can be start an Occupy movement in the music industry and demand a percentage of Nickelbacks fanbase and earnings.

I enjoy Nickelback's music about as much as being stuck in weekend city traffic when all I want to do is go home, have lunch, and rock a nap. Even with that said, the Black Keys' comment comes off as arrogant shite. The Black Keys are a fine rock band doing fine and should just keep motoring on and not worry about some buttrock band from Vancouver.

RE: Rollingstone mag - I dropped my ten plus year subscription when they hired the old editor from Maxim magazine. He, along with Rob Sheffield, put them right into the toilet. A far cry from when HST was writing for them. Will say that I considered picking it back up now that Matt Taibbi is full on part of their material.

*shrug* Probably dumb to say it to the media...but whatevs....i don't hate Nickelback, but i am not a fan of their music at all. They do what they do and apparently people like it (Without being able to admit it I guess)...

I honestly can't stand Nickleback ( especially that Kurt Cobain clone Krouger. I don't even like Cobain! ), although the other guitar player seems like a cool guy. But that dude from the Black Keys went a little over the top there. To me, the only people who should have the right to knock these people are Ace Frehley and Alex Lifeson, among others. I despise Rolling Stone magazine. Anybody who believes that crap is stupid IMHO. If you knock Rush, Kiss, AND Zep in THE SAME F'N DECADE YOU SUCK!!!!!!

It's weird that a member of The Black Keys said that. Neither of them are very good, but make for funny threads, like this one.

Nickleback, what can i say, i'm 50 years old and i find their tunes catchy.

But just like any other shallow band that catches the wave with a few good tunes, they will go by the wayside and not make any huge significant impact.

Did i not hate Blondie ? Did I not hate Devo ?

Sorry, a rhetorical questions.

Whether you hate or like Nickelback is a subjective question.

Will Nickelback blaze the trail like Blondie or Devo ? (yeah i know, subjective assumption here, but work with me guys !! :) )

Probably not :)

well... love em or hate em, they've pretty much ruled the past decade. Can anyone else think of another band that has loud distorted guitars that has managed to stay in the top 40 as much as them in the past 10 years?

I can't... and it's not for lack of wanting to find one. lol

I like a few of Nickelback's songs. Most of them are garbage but some are actually pretty good. I do think that Patrick overreacted a bit. However I would choose to listen to The Black Keys over Nickelback any day.

BTW, I hope Fred doesn't see this thread. He's gonna be pretty pissed.......................................

Although successful this side of the pond (Nickelback), The Foo Fighters IMO get more media attention/airplay etc. I like them too; they have the rare combination of being very popular/mainstream yet highly credible and talented!

In a decade filled with Bieber, Mylie Cyrus, Rap and the newest version of American idols type shows counting for what's popular music now I think Nickleback is pretty damn good actually. A least they play there own instruments and don't use auto tune or process the voices into a robotic drone.
