drathbun Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I know there is no acoustic content in this video, but I don't hang out with the electric crowd here, so please excuse the OT nature of the post. (You can catch a glimpse of the J200!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgd-OezDZKU&list=UUbT6bph6TcR-6ByiXzU3RYg&index=1&feature=plcp
fretplay Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Very good, I like it. You have two guitars and a bass but where is the fast John Lennon guitar coming from?

drathbun Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Very good, I like it. You have two guitars and a bass but where is the fast John Lennon guitar coming from? Thanks! :) That is the the little Rick 320JG doing the triplets. The Gretsch is doing standard strums just like in the original.
Teer Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Beautiful fireglo Ricky bass! A 4001? Great job on the tune as well!
BluesKing777 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Well done, Drathbun! A tough ask on the vocals, Beatles tunes, but you have breezed through it. How did you record the electrics? Mic, or line 6 type gadget straight to desk? Pretty hard to tell these days. I thought there may have been room for a slash of acoustic guitar, perhaps the 12 string Taylor? (Do you have a track of the 12 string?) BluesKing777.
retrorod Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Bravo Again Drath! Very Nice recording and video... RRod

The electrics were recorded as follows: Guitar -> Behringer C200 Compressor Pedal -> MIC200 Tube Preamp (electric modeling setting) -> DAW (Sonar) where I subsequently compressed it again in software using the Sony Wavehammer compressor. Since there was no 12 string or acoustic guitar in existence for the original Beatles recording, I did not add any here. I do have a video of my Taylor 12 string in action in my cover of the Lennon/McCartney "Bad to Me" Thanks again! :) Doug
drathbun Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Beautiful fireglo Ricky bass! A 4001? Great job on the tune as well! Thanks Teer! It is not a 4001 but a 4003. The only 4001 basses made nowadays are the vintage series Model 4001C64 which is a reproduction of Paul's 1964 4001FG.
charlie brown Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Good Job, Doug! Now, just overlay George's "up stoke bits" (beyond the lead break), and you've got it! They did a lot of "double tracking" leads, back then, for "fullness." CB

So no amplifier? Very clean sound. (Guitar -> Behringer C200 Compressor Pedal -> MIC200 Tube Preamp (electric modeling setting) -> DAW (Sonar)

Compression is the key with Rickenbackers (the six and twelve stringers I mean). When McGuinn recorded "Turn, Turn Turn" he plugged directly into the desk and compressed the hell out of the signal.
